I find when my shooting gets like that I try too hard and miss more and get more frustrated. I try to stop, take a bunch of deep breaths, and relax and reset. Then say to yourself that you are just going to relax and have fun. It doesn't always work, but more often than not it does. Great video! You and your doggies did a great job on those Red Legged Devils!

Hi Eric and thanks for sharing this wonderful content. I hunt chukar almost exclusively and I can tell you your shooting is exceptionally good. It is very common to have such days when birds under pressure flush from long distances. The only advice I can give is to go after them. They usually don't fly easily three consecutive times and they hold better when a dog is pointing on them. Regards from the other site of the globe.

Hi Nikolaou. Chukar are tough to hunt but I love it! Thanks for the comment and advice!

@@ericforrester1 Each covey has a territory of approximately 1 to 2 square kilometres (depending on population density and resources). If you force them out of that territory that they know and they really feel confident they are reluctant to walk around and confuse the dog and they hold well to the point of the dog. I know that's sound theoretical in the chukar country but it happened to me a few times and results are very sattisfactory.

One of the better chukar hunt vids I've watched. Would love to see you try filming in 2.7K or 4K in the future so you can maintain more definition on the zoomed in footage. And if your interested there is a way to mod the headstrap and mount the camera inverted, gets the lens closer to the true sight line. Good hunting and good vid.

Looks like Wyoming chukar hunting was easier than Idaho. And more productive. Moxie sure is a nice young dog!
@ericforrester13 жыл бұрын
Yeah it was relatively easy hunting with good pockets of birds. But Pat was a big reason we found so many.
@ronblackburn36833 жыл бұрын
Pat sure knew the game and has nice dogs. I’ve chased Chukars and Huns for thirty three years: It takes good stamina and strong legs (hunter & dog), as well as good bird sense (hunter and dog). Charlie Waterman the noted outdoor writer use to comment that hunting chukar required the mental skill of an Army General. I believe you have the chukar hunting bug and the making of a very good chukar dog!

Maybe I'll have the good fortune to cross paths with you and your dogs one day.

I think you put to bed, the difference of opinions, on what the best all around bird dog is. All the different states you hunt. Different types of birds. Different terrains. I have watched 20 or so of your different videos. The German wire hair pointer gets my vote. We just haven’t seen em jump in an icy lake after a duck or goose yet. But I know they would. But your not hunting waterfowl. You are hunting at least 8 different states, of grouse and pheasant and chukar and so on . Nobody is going hungry with those dogs around! Eric, how do you get so much time off work, late September and October and early November? To run all over the place? I think someone needs to sponsor you.
