From 1968 to 1977, I was a M/Cycle/Van Beat Constable in the area that covered this artefact, and I visited it many times in my duties - poaching was one of my watches, but there were many others. I have tales I could tell, but one of the special ones is of Larks, in the summer, under the high sun, chortling away, high, almost out of sight with a merriness that defies explanation, heat rising, insects chirruping, with no-one around, but me, to witness it. On the summit, in the centre, the air was still, I was alone, but I could feel the power of the earth...eerie! There is much more to tell, but only those really interested would want to know... the History of this site beggars belief, yet there is no great writing of it...or the surrounding lands.

I agree Eggardon is one of my go to places when I am after some peace and quiet or just to be closer to nature. Also with it's proximity to Maiden Castle it is very overlooked
