I would like to get a clean sub 2:10 run. It took a while for me to get this, so I decided I would post an update. The stomps I did while trying to get into the hourglass room cost me the sub. What I wanted to happen was for Sonic to land inside and then I would have homing attacked. I felt like it was a little easier to time the homing attack that way and it seemed like the homing attack was less likely to "miss" the hourglass. Yes, it can miss. Sometimes the homing attack doesn't connect with the hourglass properly and doesn't trigger it. A backup plan for this is to unpause, then boost and pause (or anything to trigger the hourglass). Boosting right in front of the hourglass and pausing creates an interesting blur effect, though. Anyway, hopefully I can get a faster run in the future. My motivation grinding this has been up and down, and I took some long breaks. So… yeah. That's mainly why I wanted to post this. Because this was really difficult for me so it could take me awhile to improve or maybe that won't ever happen. Plus, I haven't been uploading too often.

I only just got round to watching this run now and my mind is blown. The execution and way you do a lot of things makes this almost look like a TAS, i'll always be looking up at you trying to keep up. You inspire me so much >w

Thank you! I feel I haven't kept up since there are so many stages and things in this game that I have little to no experience with. You've inspired me with all of the things you have done with this game! Like many different categories and stuff all around. To me, you did so much across the board with this game. And very thoroughly/very optimized. :)

Extremly satisfying run to watch, and your description was so good to read too, I like your mentality about this grind a lot, taking breaks here and there defenitely sounds like a good plan to not burn out Good luck if you ever decide to keep trying!

I'm happy it's enjoyable! The werehog segment is what makes this so much harder in my opinion. I couldn't seem to come up with a way to consistently clip through the door into the first titan room at the end. The hourglass room one is annoying, too, but I feel like maybe a little bit less. I think the door clip is just timing based. I think you just have to shield when Sonic's shoes are like pointing straight up. Or somewhere near that part of the animation. It just happens too fast in my opinion and the window seems very tight. I started to rely more on sound. There's like a loud wind sound effect when you do that XXY (for xbox) combo at the end. I had some success when I would try to shield shortly after I heard the loud wind effect. Thank you!

Thank you. I'm sorry for the late reply. I'm only familiar with two night stages at the moment. I have a lot to try and learn for night stages. Night stages could happen in the future, but I can't say for certain.

Very impressive, i say this is extremely close to a TAS run (except going through walls and quicktime events) and what makes it even more astonishing is that this was done on original hardware. The only way i can see you improve your time is by being lucky on quicktime events and clipping through walls at the right spot. Good luck.

Okay what?! So my idea for the bobsled movement worked out after all.. and WHAT the heck was that m speed after pipe skip?! O.O I feel for you greatly that this wasn't the sub, I know too well how that is. That's insane that you even got THIS run. Wishing you the best of luck if you continue on this, that was disgusting

Yeah, I saw you had done a similar thing there! I think the higher launch pipe skip M speed is easier to perform, but the lower launch is nice since you don't have to worry about getting launched high enough in the first place. Consistency is already enough of an issue for me without having to worry about that lol. I land as close to the wall as possible, hold crouch and hold a down right angle (to make Sonic crawl a little bit and face the right way) Then, I boost (while still holding slide), jump, and hold a down (south) M speed and eventually change the angle. I kinda just got a feel for it after awhile. And yes, I was actually feeling disappointment when I saw my time. My PB prior to this was 2:11 something, so I wanted at least 2:09. Thank you. I feel I might be a bit calmer if I do try this again. Like, I feel like this mental block is lifted or lessened after getting this run. I used to get extremely nervous just getting to the pipe skip checkpoint, but now not as much. The hourglass room is where I would get very nervous after getting more comfortable at pipe skip. My least favorite aspect of running this level are the two werehog clips. I dread those parts the most and I think might be the hardest parts of the level for me. I used to think the ready go glitch was the worst, but I find myself debating between the two. The ready go glitch is draining to me and makes me feel more nervous and of course costs a lot of grind time. But if I didn't have to worry about those clips, I feel it would only be a matter of time before I could get a successful run. But because of the clips I feel more like: will I ever get a successful run? I don't think I fully understand the hourglass room clip though. Sorry for the long text, I think I'm rambling. XD

Do you play sonic on rpcs3 no? Your game has almost no fps drop, that's crazy. Maybe because of my ps3, my ps3 is a simple one...

This was played on an actual PS3. A slim (not super slim) to be exact. I played at 720p 60fps. Not sure if that changes anything, but I figured I'd mention that anyway.

How do you ignore the countdown like that?

The countdown can be ignored if you restart during certain in-level cutscenes. I restarted during the cutscene around 0:02. This is the earliest cutscene in the level you can restart from to skip the countdown that I'm aware of. The Eggmanland countdown skip can be done on PS3 and maybe Xbox 360 as well if the game is unpatched. I'm pretty certain I got this trick to work on Xbox 360 unpatched years ago. But I don't have footage of that. And I don't have a 360 available at the moment to test this again. You could also restart during the cutscene at 2:21 or the one at 2:33 to trigger the glitch. There may be more cutscenes that trigger the glitch throughout the level that were skipped in this run. I can't remember.

@@OrkoSRC I've thought about it, but no solid plans. My Shamar 1+ 1-2 would probably hard to beat , but EC 1-2 will probably be easier to beat if I can do the 3D in 2D. Cool Edge I'm not really sure. If I can pull off the whale jump you found, that may make beating my old time easier. I'm not sure how consistent that is, though. I was thinking about trying Cool Edge Act 2 night again. I was messing with the new strat there a couple of months ago.
