Is it really possible for a battery operated electric snowblower to match the power and performance of a gas powered unit? Well that's what Ego has been built their business on. They promise gas powered performance without the hassle of running to the gas station for fuel, without oil to change, exhaust fumes to breath or get in your eyes, without the noise or most of the other drawbacks to gas powered machinery. In this video I take a good look at the Ego 21 inch Single Stage 56 Volt Cordless Electric Snow Blower. If you're looking to buy one of these snowblowers but what to see just what you're getting before dropping your hard earned cash on one then I think this video is exactly what you're looking for. Enjoy! :)

You are so nice to offer to clean up your neighbour's driveway. My dad's neighbour never offered to clean his driveway despite seeing my elderly dad shoveling his driveways with a shovel. Usually, I do my dad's driveway with a snowblowers machine. People these days are just selfish. Keep up the good work. Help thy neighbours!

I used this product for 2 Winter Seasons in NY and went back to a single stage gas unit. The first unit was replaced by Ego when the circuit board failed. I usually had to stop for slightly over an hour to recharge the batteries. Clearing the snow left by the truck at the end of my driveway pretty much depleted the first charge. Since it has less power than a gas unit it barely moved slush maybe throwing it 2 to 3 feet on full power and that's if it didn't clog. The controls regarding moving the chute worked great as well as the led headlights, light weight, compact folding design and not dealing with rotating gas and oil changes but the performance regarding snow removal is what counts and this just didn't cut the mustard or plow snow adequately enough in this NY area. Better in areas like Lewes Delaware where snowfall is limited in amounts.

I just purchased this machine and have it ready to use but wasn't quite sure what I had to do when I needed to start snowblowing. This video was EXACTLY what I was looking for. I no longer can keep up with maintaining gas and oil mixtures, then draining, plus pull start. EGO was recommended to me by the neighbor that maintains all my small engines. I felt like that was a quality recommendation. So I took the chance and ordered and EGO 21".....it should arrive any day now, but I wanted to be educated on it because currently it is snowing.....AGAIN....last weekend 12"....I had to hand shovel due to both snow blowers not working. THANK YOU for the thorough walk through. My only question is how do you charge the batteries. I am thinking there will be a plug leading to the charger?

ha ha, that's awesome! Sorta the opposite of me. I'm kinda torn between their new 21" self propelled peak power mower with dual batteries and their 20" self propelled with the steel deck. I'm leaning toward the steel deck with the 7.5 amp hour battery though. Cheers man, I think you'll like this snowblower too. And thanks for checking out my video and for leaving a comment. I really appreciate it. :)

Maraksot78 I haven’t encountered a situation where a steel deck would have benefitted me in the year of ownership on my mower. It came with the single 7.5ah battery and I can cut almost two hours on a charge. The bag flow engineering is awesome, ergonomics are beautiful. I have the carbon trimmer as well, that’s a solid piece of equipment. I’d go with peak power if I were you, for the weight savings and the fact that grass doesn’t cake as bad on plastic
@Maraksot78
@Maraksot78 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks man for the insight/recommendation. I don't know anyone personally that has an Ego mower so I haven't been able to get any opinions other than from reviews and stuff online. Some hands on experience outside of Home Depot would be nice too. I have the carbon string trimmer too and I love that thing! It's awesome! It's what got me looking at more of Ego's stuff. One thing I like about the steel deck mower is the side chute which I don't believe the plastic deck has. I don't use the side chute on my current Toro mower all that often but occasionally I let my grass go a little too long and trying to bag it or mulch it doesn't work so great as it's too long and heavy so having the side chute allows me to mow it once and eject everything out then go back over it and bag it. Time consuming and crappy but better than stopping every 10 seconds to unclog the mower. I could remedy this by just mowing my grass before it gets too long but sometimes weather and summer vacations throw a wrench in the works. XD ha ha I do like the idea of having 2 additional 5 amp hour batteries. That way, if ever needed, I could just swap the batteries from the snowblower to the mower and vice versa. Thus my current indecision on which mower to get. XD ha ha

Lawn movers are fantastic and the battery lasts a long time and it’s very quiet. Only thing I suggest is that I don’t leave my batteries out in the cold in the winter. I have the lawnmower but not the snowblower but if I did I would pull them out for charging and charge then indoors where it’s warm nor would I leave them out in the cold in the machine after using it. I’m just being cautious. The cover for the batteries I don’t personally have any issues with.

They have been very helpful, especially for the wife who has to buy the things for the husband because he doesn't have time to look into them. 😊I just bought the EGO mower and I'm going to buy the snowblower. I have one question. My lawn mower came with 2 of the 5AH batteries, and your video shows that I can use them on the snow blower too. I have 1/4 acre as a normal subdivision lot. Should I buy a 7.5 battery that in your video says will fit into the lawnmower. I would like to make it as simple as possible to get the lawn done without having to stop and charge the battery. Tysm

Mmm.. Saw one of these on Craigslist. Watching your clip with the makeshift 11-inch snow made me change my mind. I know I wouldn't be a fan of having to pull back and go forward over and over. Sure usually we get snow around 4 inches or less, but every 2-3 years, we get a storm that's over 6 inches, and last year we got a storm that was around 16 inches. When it's deep, I just set the speed to 1 or 2, and let the machine do the work of going forward. (It's a 6+2 speed. (2 for reverse)) Otherwise I'm usually going at speed 3. Our current blower is a gas-powered 2-stage and self-propelled machine. Honestly, it works great. But I'd like something quieter, as I do like to use it as early as possible, usually before the sun crests the horizon. I don't mind the noise, but my neighbors might, when it's like 6AM. I'll keep looking, but Ego seems like a higher quality brand than other options I've seen. I wonder if they have a self-propelled one. Edit: They do! Aaaand it's $1,300. I think I'm good for now xD Thank you for your video!

Thanks for checking out the video and for the question. They're lithium ion batteries and my understanding is they don't have the 'memory' issue like older rechargeable batteries. You can charge them up anytime and it's fine. Since shooting this video we've had quite a bit more snow where I live in Washington State and I found with only 2 or 3 inches the batteries would last for a good hour as I was able to clear my driveway as well as help my neighbors with theirs. One morning we had around 6 inches of new snow and the run time was cut down to 30 or 40 minutes since the motor had to work harder which of course drained the batteries more quickly. I did feel that for clearing my entire driveway, 6 inches is about the deepest the Ego's batteries can make it through. I didn't have any juice left at that point to help my neighbors so I had to be selfish that day. XD lol. But yah, to answer your question I think you're just fine to charge them up when you're done clearing your driveway and side walks. :)

The 25” two stage model has skid plates, but the 21” model does not. The housing is riding on the “pavement” which if it isn’t dead flat catches on everything. Do you have suggestions for dealing with what seems like a design flaw?

Ive had this snowblower for 3 winters. At first I was excited about it, it was the best thing ever. I never had a snowblower. Im no longer thrilled with it. Still better then a shovel, but scraper bar wears out way too fast, gets caught on every crack, wheels squeel to no end, pushing it up even minor grades gets old.

@John T I use a gas 2 stage Toro at work. Thing is a beast. Everyone rants and raves about "no maintenance" but changing the oil and running the machine dry of gas at end of season takes no effort and the Toro has 0 problems every year. Im thinking about buying a Toro Snowmaster 724 QXE next year. I do see reviews popping up now about dead units especially a few a year on EGO forum. The hardcore fans do not like when you post your honest expirience. I do like their other tools though.

John T I’ve had the Ego for three years. No problems whatsoever. The instant torque is great for plowing through snow drifts. My old gas toro was a maintenance nightmare. I’m tied of messing with gas. Lithium batteries are the way to go. I haven’t pumped gas in three years. I don’t miss it.

Lol that little bit of snow i dont think i would even bother with it where I live. Would love to have one of these but i dont think it could handle what we get in upstate ny. Definitely need something much bigger and more powerful where I am at(just like you mentioned) unfortunately lol. Wish they could make a bigger model that uses maybe even 4 batteries at once for a ton of power. I also dont think the plastic scraper and the paddle wheel for lack of a better description would hold up well in my area with the icy snow we get.

Now what would be the cat's meow is if EGO would take the drive system of the lawnmower (I have one) and make the tires bigger, wider with the optional use of chains and use the 7.5 or 10 amp hour batteries then you really would have a fantastic machine. Still thinking on adding this to my arsenal of EGO tools

Excellent video. Thanks. One thing of note I did discover that you can run this on one battery because it is a single stage. When I called about this to EGO, the person I talked to didn't seem to understand my question. Apparently, only the 2 stage blowers actually require 2 batteries from what I understand, since one pulls in the snow and another pushes it out ; whereas the single stage does not do this. I bought a 10ah battery Ego lawnmower, so I reason that it should be the same as buying a snowblower with 2x5amh batteries and thought to just buy the snow blower without any batteries. But since I didn't understands this, I ended up buying the single stage snowblower with 2 x 7.5ah batteries, so I now have 3 batteries, spending a lot more money than if I just bought the blower without a battery. And what is the best way to store one or should I rotate them? I guess I will have to see how it goes. I was tempted to take it back once I discovered this but I decided to keep it. Having an extra battery can't hurt, except in my wallet. I have to say between the lawnmower and the snowblower, I spent lots of money. And on top of it I got an extended warranty just in case.

@@timsauceman6321 : It would depend on the size of your battery, I imagine. My question was: is 1 10ah battery as good as 2 x 5ah battery. I would think it would be? But since they offered the snowblower with 2 x 7.5ah Battery this year, I decided to spend a little more and get them.

It does ok as long as you don't have more than a few inches of it. It definitely works best with dryer snow. Where I live we usually only get a few inches of snow at a time and it works great for that. This past winter we had one day where we got about 6 inches of new snow and it handled it fine however the battery only lasted long enough for me to do my driveway and sidewalks and that was it. I wasn't able to help my neighbors that day.

No way in hell that the intake housing is made of 8 gauge steel! (your comment at 7:45) That's 11/64" or 0.172" which is very heavy steel, and total overkill for ANY walk behind snowblower. The intake piece alone would weigh 50-80 lbs. on this blower. I think you may have meant 18 gauge steel. Much more likely and appropriate for a machine of this type! Other than that ...nice review!
