Terrific video! I was looking for something that could remotely pull my sprayer so I could distance myself from the chemicals. This would do it! Suggestions: 1.) Instead of using the positional solenoids, you could simulate the potentiometers using a microcontroller's digital to analog peripheral. This would allow you to use a switch to toggle between manual and RC mode allowing you to keep the seat and steering arms. 2.) There is free firmware on the internet for making an autonomous mower. Add some GPS and collision avoidance sensors and you'll have some hassle free mows! 3.) It can already handle pulling sprayer, broadcast spreader, dethacther, aerator, sweeper, etc... Need solution for snow plowing. Also curious if this thing would have the power and traction be capable of moving a boat trailer around the property. If so, this would be a true work-horse! Note: EGO now has a 52" mower. But, if you made this autonomous, the 52" cut wouldn't be as necessary. I'm an experienced engineer and really want to take on these tasks. Or, at least collaborate with you, when time allows...

I was using my Z6 to cut my grass earlier today and was actually thinking to myself that it wouldn’t be too hard to turn this into a lawn roomba. You’ve basically taken it halfway there with a way to remote control it. The next step you should add a camera and see if we can leverage some robotic vacuum cleaning tech / AI to develop cutting paths and detect hazards to avoid.

It's easier to control with a pistol style transmitter. I know it seems like you would want it to be left right but it's actually harder to drive that way. just need to enable mixed mode on the transmitter. I used the flysky gt5 for my rc mower build.

Bro I just had back surgery and this would be right on time! I want to cut my grass so bad and this would totally let me do it! That space where the seat is might be good for some perimeter detectors which would keep the mower from taking off out of the yard and possibly hurting someone like a child or dog !

You guys are amazing. I'd love to see you add 4 wheel steering to the stock EGO Z6 Zero Turn. It would be the world's first lap bar controlled 4 wheel steering zero turn! EGO should do it, but until then, if anyone can, you guys can make it happen.

#1 Problem with zero turns is they don't work on slopes greater than 15 degrees. But as Cub Cadet has shown with their ZTS zero turns, making the front caster wheels steerable dramatically improves slope performance - the only problem is they use a steering wheel - no way, don't ditch the lap bar! Short of that, just having a means to temporarily lock the casters in place so they are facing front when traversing slopes, also helps hold traction (Z-Turf has a patented "lockable front casters" design for that).

@@MachineryNation The underlying "E-Steer" tech will be awesome I'm sure. The only problem is they are using a steering wheel! Hopefully they will have a lap bar version. Perhaps they do and just used the steering wheel version for the visual.

Add 3 cameras 2 facing say 10 & 2 o'clock so u get a panarama front n side views then when reversing u see behind u like a backup camera. As for the empty space put a mannequin dummy there

This was fun watching. Thanks for an entertaining video. 👍. Your title is click-bait. Change it to UK’s First EGO Z6 RC Controlled mower. There are tons of RC Controlled mowers on KZfaq, including ones with GPS programmed automated units. I am hoping that your project will continue to evolve with Kill Switch, sensors in the back and front, and final evolution to programmed path automation.

Just stick a DJI O3 camera on top, or a Mini 3 Pro drone, wear the DJI Goggles 2, and you can control the mower using FPV. Should be easier than standing some distance away and trying to correct for perspective. Just make sure you are behind a barrier so you can't drive into yourself!

You could add on A solar panels.,an charger for recharging in the sun while mowing capabilities. Say your battery is low switch on the solar charging mode while setting in the sun taking A break.

Remote control lawn mowers they are the future Manufacturers should make them. And they can make 2 different versions of them gas powered and electric. Remote control lawn mowers I rather have that It's better than pushing.

I would love to know the capabilities of this mower, just out of the box, without the wonderful and cool whizz bang upgrades made here, on slopes. Of course I realise that zero turn mowers are not traditionally good over 15 degrees... kind of hoping this is ok at 25-30 degrees.

@@ryanturner9114 Thank you Ryan, it would do more than 15deg, say 20deg at a push but it would need to be smooth terrain. EGO have just announced they are producing a ZeroTurn next year with a steering wheel which historically are much better on slopes than stick steer.

Well James I do believe remote control is a waste of time on that what’s the difference you controlling it by hand or sitting on the best thing to do is to figure out how you can put the remote on memory so you don’t have to worry about controlling it by hand

Put the seat back on it. Install an FPV system. Ride it using the FPV google to see. lol In all seriousness, I've seen such things controlled over GPS. But that is very technical even if you're technical.

GPS will get you the straight line. I built one 2 years ago and yes when its 95 degrees its much better to drive the mower while sitting in a recliner.

Linear actuators motor is too slow to move forward and back and stop, use servo motor is much faster.

If you have production resources available you shouldn't be using linear actuators to move pots around.

I wanted to try something different rather than servo motors or wiring speed controllers directly into the motor switch unit of which both would of been a lot more cost effective to work with. Why do you think I should not be using them?

@@MachineryNation They're not really that different from servos. If you were worried about cost, I can't imagine two linear actuators and two linear encoders being cheaper than two digital pots. It's just really clunky. Different would be actually following the input mechanisms, making sure how they really worked, and seeing if you could just subvert them with a simple electronic component. I'd at least look up the part number.

Some constructive criticism: video is mildly entertaining but not particularly informative. This one had potential, but you “blew it.” Because it is lacking content, it is too long. For this type of video 2-3 min is plenty. If you want to make >6 min videos, make them worth watching (i.e., make them informative; video of you laughing and speeding thru the build is not very informative). Just sayin’. Don’t kill the messenger.
