Some are questioning its price. It was never designed from the outset to be cheap. Performance benchmarks were set during design, and then the price point appeared. Margins are not particularly high. It's made in Australia where assembly is expensive. We won't have it made in Asia. EGON wishes to support local businesses and communities first.

Terrific to see some manufacturing still done in OZ. Great ideas and products you have there. Wish you all the best with the product sales. Really like how you have demonstrated the use in very rudimentary installs. This would be my preference for high flexibility. Yet can use very effectively in upmarket builds.

After watching your video I ordered the Egon hub what arrived from Australia couple weeks ago. We just finished the installation of the Egon hub, water filtration system, 90l LRA water tank and we used instead of the Duetto a heat exchanger from the engine heater. Yes, the Egon made the complete installation a lot easier and more straightforward. Next week off to Iceland, where we going to test the system specially the hot shower, Thank You again for the excellent review

That's awesome. What would be fantastic is if you could come up with a companion box that contained water filters so you can stick a hose into a creek or something and get fully filtered and ready to drink water.

Or a one stop shop for tank, creek and heating both. I'd buy the unit today but I'm not sure what to use for heating. Or a box with hot/cold output of both - dirty and tap water.

Man, overlanding has come a long way! Back in the 1980’s and early ‘90’s while overlanding around Africa we heated water on our camp fire, soaped up and dumped the warm water over our heads. For a bit of luxury once in a while we would pay for a swim at a safari lodge and shower there. We didn’t have refrigeration back then either. We used to buy fresh meat in the market first thing in the morning, then put the meat in a stainless steel bowl and covered the bowl with a wet towel. As the towel dried and the water evaporated, the air in the bowl cooled and kept the meat until we cooked it that night. Primitive but effective. I think all the modern gadgets are fantastic and would love to go overlanding again with all the modern kit.

@@nadeem23 Hi Nadeem, my first adventure in Africa was a trip to Kenya and Tanzania in 1986. All these years later I still remember how excited I was to land in Nairobi, the first night camping in the bush, the first animal sightings etc. I would have to say the most unexpected encounter was seeing and listening to all the beautiful birds. I didn’t really take much notice of birds until my trips to Africa and Australia, so many beautiful, colourful birds. One day, if health permits, I would like to return one last time.

Dear Andrew (and friends), I'm always in awe of the amount of gadgets and solutions that can make life more convenient on the go. And Andrew with his constant desire to experiment is always very interesting. But I still think the old-fashioned way: what isn't there, doesn't break. I know, it's an ancient way of traveling, but if you travel like me in a desert like the Sahara (a very different social, political and environmental context from South Africa and Australia) you quickly learn that simplicity is superior to any comfort, in terms of safety. In fact, the only thing I've adopted with satisfaction from the "Australian style of travel" is the rubbish bag on the spare wheel. In any case, thanks for your work. A hug from Italy.

This water hub thing seems like a really good idea. I want to see it being tested using a gas geyser. Let explain why. A lot of us heat our water using gas. Gas water heating wastes a lot of water. I wonder how it would work in a case where the hot water takes 30 seconds to be hot because the gas geyser is still busy doing its thing 7:33

It looks good, but it's super expensive. Just looking at the internal layout, could you just run a straight fresh water outlet pipe (blue) with a t-piece that goes straight to the mixer (via the check valve) and another t-piece before the mixer takes joins the grey water pump, with a t-piece on that line joins the HWS feed? That would de-clutter the internals, use less joiners and have fewer connections (fail points).

I think it was mentioned early in the vid that it reduced installation time by an average of 6 hours; when you consider you'll pay over $100 an hour to an auto elec, It's a time saving device which pays for itself during installation by an auto elec, However if you do the installation yourself, this rule does not apply because nobody pays themselves $120 an hour to do an installation. However it does simplify the installation, and keep all the fuses neat in close proximity with the relays and makes fault finding a little easier as there are many test points on the circuit board, They even put in led's to indicate blown fuse if your that way inclined. I think it's a good product overall, however I usually do all that on the go and it saves on wiring distances. But for the auto-elec it saves a lot of time crimping and all you have to do is strip and connect the cable with the Egon Hub. Just my 2 cents worth as a dual traded electrical fitter / electrical mechanic with a good electronics background. Looks to be a good solid unit, and when you start pricing up all the individual components you'll see why it's priced accordingly. It's a bare bone system to keep the price low which can grow as you add more stuff to it such as relays, fuses and the like.

@@KB-ou5vj Yes but you don't pay yourself $120 an hour to do it. These guys have to factor in labor, parts, overheads, etc..., and they look like quality SS external fittings. The idea that I think most ppl are missing is that it saves on labor install costs. Instead of paying a qualified person to do all the plumbing work, your paying a suitably trained person to pre do it, but each to their own. We're not dealing with Chinese made stuff were you can't even buy the parts for what they make it for. When you buy Australian, the buck stops here, and your buying your kids a job.

Only two disadvantages i see: price and the second one - yes you can wash your car with that but u are unable to swap for cold water. Basically it is thermostatic tap with one output. So everytime you turn it on you are using / wasting your hot water. I know you have cold water tap at the back of your car but should be easy to run second pipe and a add mixing tap to shower. So you can decide if you want to use cold or warm water. And also. Why are you always disconnecting the shower hose etc. and draing water to car. Wouldn’t it be easier to just pack it inside and have it always ready?

Funny enough it is the corrugations that really destroys electrics and water connections.

We tested them, in over 30 of them installed all over Australia. Our two both tested on the Canning stock route. No leaks. No comebacks. We decided now that testing program is complete.

Seems like a good idea but I just don't see why it costs $1,400. The temp valve cost $250 and both of the pumps cost less than $50. How is the case and piping worth $1000?

It's not assembled in a sweat shop in China. It's built here in Australia. If you are doing an instal yourself, work out how to plumb it, run the pipes and pumps and valves yourself, and yes, you'll probably save some money. What is worth more to you? Time or money? I can't answer that for you.

It’s disappointing to find out that Ineos didn’t invite you to test out the Grenedier. All the typical car reviewers have gone to Scotland to review it. But I can see you haven’t. Really disappointing!

Performance benchmarks were set during design, and then the price point appeared. Margins are not particularly high. Its made in Australia and assembly is expensive. We won't have it made in Asia. EGON supports local businesses and communities.

I might have done. We design and build for optimum quality. If you want cheap and something that sort-of-works and breaks after a year, you've come to the wrong place.

@@4xoverland interesting. I was talking about the price of the exact same shower head unit that you can get on online for $20 yet you sell it at $479. How does that pricing work?

I think we're talking about the markup, not the quality.

It's a great all in one and I see the use case for high production shops and just past the cost to the customer that willingly pays these prices. It's a high margin low quantity pricing model. Which you're free to choose what you want. I would guess app comments on price are from DIYers like myself that would rather put in some sweat and save a few hundred and still install quality parts. Like your PCB boards. Whether is a Chinese, American or Australian robot making them it's still a robot. I'm looked into sourcing custom PCB boards for power distribution and once designed they're made for under $20 USD. The markup is for the design and sourcing. And with your kind of markup you're either trying to be millionaires in a couple years or you don't plan on selling many. The overpriced economy is slowing down and the market isn't readily paying these prices anymore. Great design though. I hope you figure out a better pricing model.
