Then he got injured and used the injury as an excuse and leverage to force the trade. IT HAPPENED!!! I think fans of all teams except Vegas were hoping this! I’m a Canucks fan but the sabers quickly became my favorite eastern conference team after this game! I really hope they make the playoffs next year and VGK doesn’t.

He got boo'd for a ton of reasons 1) He tried to make the sabres the Bond Villian of the story when in reality the only people to blame were the NHL LTIR insruance and or Eichel himself. The surgery he wanted wasnt covered under the leagues insurance (Which is was guarantees your remaining contract value if the surgery should fail and you never play again). Eichel coulda got the surgery he wanted at anypoint but he woulda had to pay for the surgery himself and assume the liability (his contract being voided and him not getting the remianing 50mill if the surgery fails). But eichel wanted the pegulas to assume 50 mill in liability whilst receiving no benefit to that gamble (the surgery has a 20-25% failure rate--and eichel already made it clear he would never play for the sabres again meaning why tf would the pegulas gamble 50mill on him for nothing). 2) He was a Whiny little bitch his entire time he was here in buffalo. Ask any fan over the age of 25 if they think Eichel deserved to be captain and we'll say no. He was gifted the C entirely bc Mcdavid was and his ego demanded he be treated as if hes on par with mcdavid when he never has been. All the rumors and shit we've heard about him over the years and defended was more or less just proven entirely true by his comments in this interview. That hes a brash immature baby who pouts on and off the ice and who treats those around him as if they're beneath him. 3) He was always a Boston Mook, Buffalo hates boston and their residents with a passion. Eichel would lick bradys jockstrap if given the chance. So theres no love lost that the brady lover is out of town.

You would get why if you were a sabres fan and a decent human being both (not directed at you, personally!). He didn't want out when he couldn't get the surgery, he asked to be traded the year before. And most of his tenure here he made comment after comment implying if the team didn't do what he wanted as far as coaching changes and player trades he would go elsewhere as soon as he could. He also had year after year of not working hard on the backcheck and looking like he only played hard when he wanted to, whined like crazy whenever something didn't go his way, took zero responsibility for the team's failures and consistently "threw teammates under the bus". Most fans bought into his "i'm better than McDavid" bs and wanted it to be true so they overlooked all of his "hockey player" flaws (as fans are apt to do) and ignored all the troublesome signs and actions that were non skill set related. But as time went on, more and more got tired of his prima donna nonsense and realized there is much more to top notch hockey player and leader than just fancy dancy skill. With continued lack of success, partly due to Eichel himself both on the ice and off of it, fans more and more looked at him critically and didn't like what they saw, mostly because of a complete lack of awareness and responsibility on Eichel's part and enough was enough. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

So yes, now that it appears they're not going to make the playoffs and Lehner is out, Sabres are in a much better position to get better draft picks.
