Who Qurbani is Wājib upon
Qurbani is Wājib (essential) upon every Muslim male and female who has the following attributes at any time on 10, 11 or 12 Dhul Hijjah:
- Is a resident (Muqīm) i.e. he is not a traveller(Musāfir) according to terminology of Shariah
- is Mālik un Nisāb (has the amount of wealth upon which Sadaqatul Fitr would become wajib).
- Is Bāligh (Bāligh here means adolescent - when males and females reach the age of 15 according to Hijri Calendar then they are definitely Baligh whether signs become apparent or not. However a male can become baligh between age of 12 and 15 and a female between 9 and 15 - which will be ascertained through the signs of being Bāligh)
Time period in which Qurbani is to be fulfilled
Qurbani has to be done any time between the starting time of fajr on 10 Dhul Hijjah until sunset of 12 Dhul Hijjah.
What is the Nisaab (amount of wealth) due to which Qurbani and Sadaqatul Fitr become Waajib
A person becomes Malik un Nisāb for Qurbani and Sadaqat ul Fitr if:
- he or she has wealth that is over and above basic necessities (Hājāt ul Asliyyah) which consists of:
7.5 Tola Gold (87.45 grams)
Or
52.5 Tola Silver (612.15 grams)
Or
- it is money and items that are above his or her basic needs which equate to the value of 612.15 grams of silver.
