The eider is a sea duck from the subarctic oceans and the #eiderdown comes from these ducks. Eiderdown is one of the warmest natural fibres on the planet, both light and highly insulating. It is used to make some of the world's best duvets and quilts.
#Iceland is the world's largest producer of eiderdown. The handpicked down sells for thousands of euros a kilo, catering to those looking for exclusive products.

You are misinformed. Eider is protected by law in Iceland. Eider farmers protect the eider from ravens, gulls, mink and foxes by putting up barbwire around the nesting sites to keep predators away, and some of them even build small houses for them. Through the centuries eiders prefer to stay around human settlement because of this this protection. So basicly eider farmers protect the eider and do not harm them in any way. The eider population in Iceland would be smaller if not for the farming.

For everyone saying she took off the nest, please stop by and read this once. For every fish that is eaten about 30-500 other fish are killed which depends upon the breed, most of the other fish are then thrown back into the ocean half dead know as bycatch . For example if around 500 sharks are to be catched around 15000 other fish are also found in the same net and since they are not actually the target fish they are all throw back into the ocean hours laters, most of them dead and all those ethically sourced labels you see on cans are basically shams. So please stop calling this out, that is what humans have to work with to survive it’s the most ethical way practically possible. And PLEASE STOP EATING ANIMALS ESPECIALLY SEAFOOD. If you care about this at all please go watch SEASPIRACY for more info. Thank you for reading this hope you make a difference in the world.
