I visited Eihei-ji temple in late December when I was a kid (must have been 14 years old). It was a very cold and somber place with creaky floors as I remember. I was fascinated by the sharpness and sternness of the place. Perhaps they did not have those fancy annex buildings to the main temple complex, but it was an amazing experience even as a kid. Your uploads always capture something totally essential yet indescribable feel to many things lost in modern Japan.

Thanks for the comment. I myself visited the temple after a long period of time. I had a zazen in the temple once, but could not identify where it was. Actually I could remember almost nothing besides some impressions about the temple. Memory is fragile.

最後に行ったのは２０年前ですが時間が止まったようです。 誰も登れない石段の手前からの景観、綺麗ですね。 この廊下を色んな高僧が歩かれたのですね。 ちなみに私自身は全く信心深くありませんが・・・

有名な永平寺！めちゃくちゃ広い敷地なんですね！ 一部近代的な部分もありましたが、古い木造建築は趣があります(^^♪

実はこの後にまだ宝物館もあってそちらの展示物が素晴らしいのですが、残念ながら撮影禁止でした。何度訪れてもよいところです。
