Mr. Leonard Bernstein and Eileen Farrell collaborate on this Johnny Mercer, Harold Arlen beauty! No 2 people have ever been so in love! Marriott Marquis 1987.

A real jambon! And when conducting, the music is just an accompaniment to his interpretive dance.

Thank you for writing! My feelings are much as yours. I saw her once, and was too timid at the time to say anything. I'll never forgive myself for that; I was around 17. I'm certain you've heard probably everything she's ever sung, but please check out my site for a couple of others. Here's one, albeit she's dubbing for Eleanor Parker! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iKhgndGS356RcoU.html Best to you, varadero

Remembering this romantic performance of Leonard Bernstein and Eileen Farrell on "A Musical Toast: The Stars Shine on Public Television" with host Ithzak Perlman, which first ever aired as part of the conclusion of KPBS San Diego's Festival '87(March 1987 Membership Campaign), Circa Sunday March 22nd, 1987!! But unfortunately, KPBS felt short of its $450,000 goal and took only $370,208 during its Festival '87 membership campaign due to fewer people won't itemize deductions, weaker repeated pledge programs and a lack of thank-you premiums!!! TV Worth Watching and TV Worth Paying For!!

Rob - I'm so thrilled to see your comment here! Your mother was an such inspiration to me. I was one of those lucky students who were so blessed to be in her "Popular Vocal Styles Class". She continues to inspire me. In fact on the last recording I was working on, I was recording the lead vocals for "Music of My Heart" & the sound engineer said, "technically perfect, but expression? Zip." I knew just what to do. I put Eileen in a chair in the corner of the room, did it again & they loved it!

Cornelius White: This was a low period in his life and career where unable to get conducting jobs or write music, he was reduced to playing the piano in saloons for tips. Sometimes to help him out, friends and colleagues would try to arrange assignments where he could rebuild his career and life. Due to overwhelming response to Eileen Farrell’s singing, conducting assignments and recording opportunities soon developed. This is the beauty of friendship and the power of PBS. By watching and contributing lives are rebuilt!!!

Two immortals. My father was an IRS agent, assigned to audit the Farrell/Regan taxes. Despite the audit, they were very pleasant when he called on them in Staten Island. He heard an incredible pianist tinkling away in another room. Farrell asked him, 'Do you wanna meet Lenny? He's in the other room.'

What a great memory! Think if I were your dad I'd have been thrilled! Watching the end of this clip you can imagine the love and friendship between these two. Born on Staten Island, I saw her once on the ferry. Sorry I was too star-struck to ask for an autograph. Again, thanks so much for sharing this beautifully personal message. Did you see the other post of them where she sings "Some Other Time?" Best, varadero

The are both known for tremendous acting skills/inflections -- because they began singing professionally Connected to the Lyric!!!! Absofreakinglutely Awesome!!! 😎😎😎

Eileen Farrell was the greatest crossover singer of all time. Than Barbra Streisand, than any popular singer who tried to sing opera, or any other opera singer who tried to sing popular music. Rudolf Bing fired her from the Met for singing popular music. She took the heat, and blazed back "singin' the blues". kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hNp7ocSLyr2cZ30.html

Wonderfull. Leonard Bernstein and André Previn could perform 'beautiful' music whether classical, pops, jazz. They were (are) at home with Mozart or Gershwin on Broadway or Carnegie Hall. This is the mark of a true musician, not very common in 'classical music' performers.

In "this" musical excerpt, she often sings next to the note and look for catching the note. In other recordings, I also noticed that she slides to catch the right note, she can not catch it directly. Here, she sings false, that's all. A style ? I dunno, not so good. I can't see (hear) what is so amazing... ?? Sorry.
