Hey Guys, What Are Tanner Crabs? Are They Called something Else? You Guys Are Fun To Watch!! Thanks!!!
@EISAlaska2 жыл бұрын
Hi Roger! Chionoecetes bairdi and C. opilio are the two species of Tanner crab harvested in Alaska. We are harvesting bairdi which are the larger cousin of opilio or "opies" often seen on DC. Here is a link to ADFG that tells more about the two species, range, size and management. www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=tannercrab.main Thanks for joining us and we will see you again soon!

I loved seeing the morning wake up around you. Beautiful sunrise. Beautiful scenery. Now I know what a Tanner Crab is. They're sort of creepy looking. You got a whole bunch, but only kept a few handfuls. Don't apologize for grunting noises. It's just natural. This was a educational experience to me. Thank you for sharing your hard working life with me. You got the best office with a 360° panoramic view out your window.

I really like your voice over comments Matt. One question: Do you have an idea of how much time savings per pot when using the modified pot landing procedure ? And what advantage does those time savings bring to your operation. My take is that you saving on body wear and tear, and that you can haul more of your day time sets. Just how much more ? Nice to find those efficiencies.
@EISAlaska2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Kenneth. I'd say at least 2-3 minutes per pot. It's a lot easier on our bodies not bending over grabbing hand fulls of crab out of the pot. We were hauling about the same as last season, but could definitely feel that I was less exhausted at the end of the day.
@brinkee76742 жыл бұрын
@@EISAlaska I bet it's easier. Work smarter not harder. Your body will thank you when your around 50. Trust me I know It's nicer to do things when you get home instead of wishing you were dead so the pain would stop

I like how you edited this video, with the voice over and also explaining what you do and what you use, like the tape on your leg pants. Also your parents must be so proud of you and not just your Dad! It would be nice to hear about when you started fishing with your Dad and to hear perspectives both from your parents and you. And is the new boat going to be yours or your Dad's? Or are you selling it once ready? Thanks and more power!

PS: I remember Charlie White of Scotty fame from Victoria, BC was one of the first to do underwater fishing and crabpots and was very popular back when the technology was just starting out in the late eighties early nineties. Drew quite a crowd and was very entertaining. I could never wait for his next video to come out. And that was with poor quality equipment in the beginning.

Please never apologize for working hard, grunting is a sign you’re putting in lots of effort. Are the tanner crabs kept alive and shipped to Asia?
