Kashmir, the valley of Sufis and Rishis, is truly known as Reshivaer throughout the world. The beautiful amalgamation of beauty and spirituality gives a particular identity to this valley worldwide. It was the great, revered Sufi Saint of Turkistan, Hazrat Sharaf-ud-din, commonly known as Bulbul Shah (R.A), who introduced Sufism in Kashmir. But the renowned Sufi scholar, Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamdani (R.A)also known as Ameeri Kabir laid the foundation of Sufism in Kashmir. His poetry leaves the readers fascinated, and provide them with an endless contentment.
The birth of a number of Sufi Saints took place in Kashmir by the end of 9th century. These Sufi Saints have achieved a prominent importance in history of Kashmir. Their poetry enamor the souls of readers with absolute faith in life after death. The verses reveal their innate ability to write about the secrets of universe. These eminent Sufi Saints like Shamsfaqir (R.A), Lal Aerifa (R.A) are famous for their divine intelligence. However, there are some other sufis who had equally devoted their souls towards the inexplicable love of Allah and Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W), but they are not known to the masses. Hazrat Khawaja Habibullah Naqshbandi (R.A) is one among such sufi saints.
He was born on 12th Rabi-ul-awal 1200 in a well renowned family at Buchwara Dalgate Srinagar. He was of Naqashbandi order and his upbringing was done by his father Hazrat Ramzan Sahib (R.A). At the age of five, Hazrat Khawaja Habibullah Naqshbandi (R.A) memorised the Quran and merely at the age of 19, his mother died.
Hazrat Ramzan Sahib (R.A), father of Khawaja Habibullah Naqshbandi (R.A) enhanced his Islamic intellect by providing him with complete understanding of fiqh and Hadith. He was bestowed with the blessed company of Hazrat Syed Bahaw-ud-din Naqshbandi (R.A) at Khawaja bazar Nowhatta. He accomplished his further teachings in the company of Hazrat Hassan Shah Naqshbandi which in turn added more brilliance to his great intellect. Hazrat Khawaja Habibullah Naqshbandi (R.A) is known as Khalifaye Awal of Hazrat Rajab Shah Dehalvi (R.A) of Babademb Srinagar. He was spiritually benefitted by many Sufi Saints of his time like Hazrat Gaffar Saeb, Hazrat Ahmad Saeb Macham (R.A), Hazrat Wahab Saeb (R.A). For almost ten years he proclaimed Islamic teachings and emphasized on submission to the will of Allah. He preached Islamic teachings in Khanqah Naqshbandi and Khanqah Dargajn where many great Sufi scholars learned from. Hazrat Khawaja Habibullah Naqshbandi (R.A) influenced the lives of many people with his unprecedented spiritual powers. Moreover, his teachings filled with mystical essence had flourished the fertile hearts of many people. His presence laid an everlasting emphasis on their hearts which were otherwise devoid of love of eternity. The miracles of this great mystical saint are worthwhile. He used to organise spiritual get-together every year on 3rd Rabi-ul-awal at his residence Buchwara Dalgate in which thousands of people from Muran Pulwama and Dargajn participate whole heartedly.
It is very important to convey today’s youth that such Sufi Saints had deep reverence in society and it had not lost its importance till today. Hazrat Khawaja Habibullah Naqshbandi (R.A) had spiritual meetings with Hazrat Sheikh Hamza Makhdoomi (R.A), Hazrat Khawaja Moin-ud-din Chesti (R.A), Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani (R.A), Hazrat Yaqoob Sarfi (R.A) in his dream. The sufi of such a great reverence was finally rewarded with Khilafat by Hazrat Mohammad Yousuf Mantho Sani who was commonly known as Khawaja Bab Sahab, Buchwara. .
It was really a big loss to this world when Hazrat Khawaja Habibullah Naqshbandi (R.A) left to heavenly abode on 3rd Rabi-ul-awal 1324. He was 124 at that time. His namaz-e- janaza was joined by thousands of people. He was buried in the graveyard of Peer Murshid Hazrat Khawaja Mohammad Yousuf Mantho Sani (Bab Sahab). Verily, Hazrat Khawaja Habibullah Naqshbandi (R.A) was one of the greatest saints of Naqshbandi order.
