this phenomenon has intrigued me for a bit, I've noticed that a lot of football players (regardless of race) tend to date women who look very similar to each other (blonde hair, light colored eyes, plump (most likely filler) lips, skinny), and we know the obvious reason is because these types of women right now are the pinnacle of beauty, and anyone opposite of that is ugly, it also ties in with how men tend to go after women that their other male colleagues will also find attractive (this is something I've experienced dating), and if you don't meet those requirements of being attractive to them as well, then you aren't worthy of being his girlfriend, of course we aren't sure if most footballers truly think that way, but the majority of men that women have spoken about in the dating scene both normal citizen and celebrity, it's highly possible that they are no different. but this conversation is about black players specifically, I remember 50 cent (or some other rapper) saying that black women remind him of poverty, a lot of these black men have that type of mentality that once they get at the top, that's when they'll get themselves a white woman, most black women are "come up" and "fall back" girls meaning that once a black male goes up, you must stay in place until he falls down (i.e people saying kanye west "needs a black womans love" after is marriage with kim kardashian), and you know how these men react when you as a black woman open your options and explore other races, you're a coon and a sellout. this is a long paragraph I know 'i ain't reading all that' but this is just my take on the topic :)

As a dark skinned man i look at my dating history and it definitly is mostly women who are lighter than me. It definitely in retrospect was subconsciously feeling "white is right". Videos like yours helped me unserstand the subconscious hate i had for my own skin color

No one ever talks about the black men who are ignored by black women. It’s always black mens fault when I see women go for the same type of black guys. I only dated outside of my race when I kept getting rejected by women of my own colour. It’s the same for the black women who aren’t stereotypical black woman

Hey Sis! This has been ‘a thing’ in the US since the 70’s. The concerning thing is that it seems we are ‘whitewashing’ ourselves away. I attribute this behavior to the trauma from slavery and modern slavery. Thank you for intelligently discussing this painful topic

Most black men date non-black women in Britain according to the 2011 UK census. All these mixed race people with white mums don’t just fall from the sky… and mixed race people (that are black and white) are the fastest growing population in the whole of the UK. You have to remember that the whole of the UK is not London, and I would say that the self hatred of black men is worse outside London (barring Birmingham). My advice to Black women is to go where women like you are appreciated, do not wait around for black men to suddenly not hate themselves and see the light, you may have to move countries. Obviously not all black men hate themselves in the UK but it is an unaddressed widespread issue

I think you hit one of the reasons dead on…..and that is the fact that most of these young black men would not ordinarily have access to these white women where they come from. So, as soon as they reach a certain status in life, rich, famous, they are fascinated to suddenly have this access that they wouldn’t normally have. But I would caution these young black men who are so quick to marry these young white women. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t care what color a person is as long as it’s real love. I think the question that these rich/famous young black men have to ask themselves is…..if you weren’t rich/famous would that same white girl had married you if per say you were an ordinary Joe with a blue collar job? And if you’re completely honest with yourself, I think you know the answer to this question. So with that being said, it would behoove you to marry someone with a strong foundation of love and not because of your financial status.

One thing I always find interesting about this topic is wealth. On one hand Black Women want the most successful Black Men. On the other hand, the Black Women that want to be with them don’t necessarily come from wealth. It’s like they’re upset because they can’t get the wealth. My question is this, are you going to discuss the countless black women ran "divest" pages and channels, or are you going to do the usual and support/ignore that. Oftentimes we see everybody dictating who black men who/should date but then the same people are cheering and throwing a party when a black woman dates interracially.

Nevertheless, it may have been wiser to actually interview some black men about this before doing what women in general are known for, talking but not listening. Absolving yourself of responsibility,...easily, but definitely not doing the same for your male counterparts, and lastly, the most annoying behavior, thinking so highly of yourself that you would dare speak "for" a man, instead of speaking "to or with" a man. i say this as a black man living in london, i vehemently agree with your self hate argument . we are socialised with anti blackness, to the point it has embedded itself within our community to then take form as self hate within some of us. even during school, alot of us would put those who had a proximity to whiteness on a pedestal e.g. biracials, disparage the darkest amongst us and even mock each other's cultures e.g. africans vs caribbean folk. growing up/ congregating within a country that violently implemented their beauty standards upon the world and sustains them till this day doesn't help. but then again the colonial mindset amongst us is worldwide so it doesn't really matter where your current adobe is. that's why it's imperative once we become parents to black children to verbally teach them to love themselves and one another, because the world surely won't. tbh i'm not sure how one who is cognisant of the innumerable atrocities these yts have imposed upon us and how they perpetuate them till this day would even want to be in a relationship with them, it's otherworldly to me.

As black Caribbean man this my observation base on living in the UK. Thank you for this video, first of all I am of the believe that someone can date anyone from any particular race. Although I am of the belief that race can provide a basis of compatibility, but race itself cannot solely sustain a relationship and there are many bases of compatibility other than race. However, if someone is dating from a place a self hate, then that's problematic. In the UK context there are whole lot of complexities when it comes to black people dating out side of their race, for one there is a lot of anti-Blackness that exist in the Black British Community and in the British society whether we want to admit it or not, and that is largely stem from Racism and Colourism, which also plays a role in black footballers choices when they start making 6figure salaries because sadly we live in a world where historically white/light skin women are seen a symbolic capitals which can converted in economic capital, which is advantageous for black footballers,and therefore influence their dating choices. I think all of this is rooted in slavery and colonialism where the legacy of who is considered beautiful and high status is centre around how lighter or darker one skin is, which is sad. As a black man, I am of the view that a black woman as just as much attitude as white/light skin woman, it just what some men willing to put up with and what society programme successful black men not to put up with.

very interesting perspective. here are my thoughts 1)A big reason in my eyes is mainly in hip hop videos for about 2 decades, video vixen are mainly light skin and thick, latina. that image of an exotic woman is what was revered the most. That mindset just get translated to next generation. In that same time frame, you've the rise of Kardashians. Light skin and think (in Kim's case anyway) and they quickly became a beauty standard men lust over 2) I also this P*rn plays a huge factor, particularly interracial. Guys this is all because of American black culture that influences other black races with their culture. In the uk I see a lot of dark skin beautiful girls being represented on TV, music videos and I see a lot of black couples too. Now, there exist black men out there who prefer light skinned or whites women but it’s not the majority.
