Gordeeva & Grinkov had a fine skate to win the competition. I can't help but feel that this program was somewhat downgraded from what we were used to seeing from them.
Only one double axel instead of two and for some reason her landing on the jump wasn't perfectly on. Same thing on their last double toes on which it looked like she fell out of a little bit. Maybe they didn't need to push it since it was a shoe in for them to regain their world title or was it a sign of the coming troubles she would have on her individual jumping in the 1990 season?
Hey maybe i'm nitpicking here, but the judges only rewarded them with 5.8s on the technical merit with one pair left to skate. Ekaterina sure looked like she expected higher marks!

Absolute perfection! They are like angels skating! What a an enormous blessing and privilege it is that we have gotten to experience the artistry and incredible BEAUTY that G&G brought to the sport! This program is a cut above every other G and G program. I really love the dance moves connected to the technical elements...I wish Marina Zueva had used this approach for other programs. Also G and G's execution and artistry was just flawless.

Yes they were in love but always true professionals they don’t show their feelings for each other in public unlike other skaters that hug and kiss in affection after a perfect performance like this one. Sergei was always so serious! I wish he would have been a little more affectionate here but later you can see the joy in his face when they receive the gold medal on the podium

They had just fallen in love and were a little freaked out by it-they just weren’t ready to tell anyone, much less start kissing on television. They more than made up for it later.

Er ist hier sehr erschöpft. Da können sie nicht mehr lachen! Das war eine sehr grosse physische Leistung. Auf einigen Aufnnahmer war er sehr bleich. Ich denke, man hat die Herzschwäche zu wenig beachtet oder sogar ignoriert. Das tut mir im Nachhinein sehr leid!!!!!!! Armer Sergei!

Прошло столько лет,но хочется пересматривать выступления этой пары,смотрю сегодняшние выступления,но нет этой изюминки! Смотрю и выступления волосожар и траньковым,их вальс! Почему то пошла мода на поднятие ног выше головы и по видимому это круто, только я устарела и не понимаю этого

I love this couple, but I hate seeing Sergei in ridiculous, effeminate, costumes! I’m a woman, and I’ve skated in more than a few crystals, but I like that today’s male skaters dress more like men...regardless of how they identify personally. In later years, his costumes really made one appreciate Sergei’s strength and power, and did not in any way diminish his amazing artistry and sensitivity!

You didn’t live through the 70s and 80s did you? That was just the way it was and no one thought anything of it. Once they turned pro in the 90s, everyone started to be really careful to make Sergei’s costumes flattering, plain, and masculine-as opposed to the 1980s glitz that everyone expected from amateurs.
