Regis University Collegium Musicum (Mark Davenport, director) performs "El grillo" by Josquin des Prés (c. 1450-1521).
This video was made during the fall semester of 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. For two months the ensemble rehearsed outside under a large tent in the university parking lot, socially distanced and wearing singer's masks. For this final project each member of the ensemble was filmed in front of a blue screen, performing their parts separately on the Claver Recital Hall stage. Using earbuds and headphones they sang their parts while watching a video of the director conducting the piece with only the audio accompaniment of Adam Ewing (assistant to the director) on piano. Each of the 16 parts was then assembled in the studio to produce this maskless ensemble performance.
Special thanks to faculty member Mitch Helble for the filming and editing of this video production.

Text:
The cricket is a good singer
Who can hold long notes
He sings all the time
But he isn't like the other birds
Once they've sung a little bit
They go somewhere else
The cricket stands firm
When it's very hot out
He sings for the love of it
