My parents met at a dance while my father was stationed at Fort Bliss during WWII. My mother was a student at Texas College of Mines. They were married by a justice of the peace before he was shipped to Japan. My father was later an instructor (GED's) at Fort Bliss as well as working for Southern Pacific Railroad, Little Flower yard. This postwar video brings back my childhood in the lower valley and trips we made to Ciudad Juarez. Seeing the church in Juarez was wonderful. Thank you for posting this video.

We lived in El Paso during this time - I was a toddler - Daddy was a contracted engineer with the Military - through Western Electric - and my goodness, that Falcon Wagon in the very beginning, looks like the one we had. I was hoping the woman with the little children in the beginning would miraculously be us, but the third child took us out of the equation ☺ Thank you for this footage. My brother put together Daddy's slides of our various military travels that are pretty entertaining: mrmelo25 is his channel although you tube tries to misspell it. LOL Thanks again!

was stationed there in 1960 815th Engineers Heavy Construction we did a lot of maintaining at the various range camps remember well the R-Cat drones being shot down by Nikes and the twin forties blasting away at them, never did see one hit by them, nothing but sand and brush, Newman NM was nothing but an old general store where people got their mail on the left side of the road heading out to the range camps, don't remember El Paso being that big a city at that time

Thank you for posting this. It really captured very well the scene in the Juarez/El Paso area of the late-50's early 60's. A great time to grow up at the place. My dad worked in Fort Bliss-White Sands a the time. Army, missiles, tanks, radar, desert, Juarez commercial district, border and the iconic Franklin mountains. The Bald guy was a spitting image of my own dad, except he did not smoke-that I know of.

Sorry, I wasn't able to give more info earlier. I had gotten bad news of a friend that once was Yardmaster at Railroad yard called Alfalfa off North loop and Delta St. He was a veteran, a wonderful friend. He passed away and my brain went to that dark place. As a teenager I would take my Delta 88 for gas with friends that worked there. Gas pumps were removed years back but they left air hose to fill your tires with air.

@@WalkingPrepper How sad that’s your opinion of my hometown. Maybe you had a bad experience but to many who grew up and have family here, El Paso has fond memories for them. Throughout the decades, El Paso has evolved and developed pretty well. Lots of professionals and military have decided to make it their home because of many reasons that appealed to them; low cost of living, climate, friendly people, great Mexican food, laid-back living, international, etc . . . No city is perfect; there’s always good and bad everywhere. For example the city of San Francisco. While on a business trip there, I had never seen so many homeless, filthy vagabonds all over the city including the financial center. The streets were littered with them (and no they were not immigrants or illegals). A beautiful city indeed with a bad side but I would never insult the locals by giving San Francisco a bad name. In any event, if people want to feel nostalgic for this city and have fond memories of grandma or grandpa, etc. . . don’t ruin it by downgrading their hometown. Go spill your venom somewhere else. Greetings from El Paso, TX the Sun City 🌞🌵🌻
