These are usual eaten for Christmas or New Year’s or for a cold weather. We also have, corn tamales served usually for breakfast with a side of refried beans and Salvy cheese and sour cream. Note: I believe all Latin countries love their and their version of “Pan Dulce” which is sweet bread but, Salvadorans really take pride in this and have a sweet tooth☺️we have many sweet bread but, also have some called reposterias which are pastries these are more intricate to make or are considered more detailed. You tried a semita alta which it literally means a thicker bread version of semita it’s filled with either pineapple or figs….I prefer the semita pacha which means flatter semita it still has the pineapple or figs but I can taste the filling rather than the bread😬……this bread is super popular in El Salvador but, the countries’ staple is a pan dulce called “Quesadilla” it’s nothing fancy but, it’s tasty because it’s of the cheese the handmade cheese (the cheese is in between ricotta and Parmesan) it’s perfect with coffee and it not overly sweet it’s perfect at anytime…..but with coffee or hot chocolate they always say.😄

@moonbaby02053 жыл бұрын
He's fighting gangs and trying to drain the swamp-- he's actually trying to help the people versus working for the wealthy like previous political parties in power have done so he's the best in my lifetime. I think you were wondering about empanadas, they are made from mashed platain and the inside is a type of cream custard, the street market between 11th & 12th also has empanadas with beans inside. Love the videos and thanks for repping Salvadorans =)

Bro!! I literally love your channel!!!! I’ve visited some of the hole in the wall/mom and pop spots that you hit up. So I know you have good taste but on this occasion you went to the first spot of Salvadoran vendors that had existed since 1980s. I get nostalgic when I walk down 9th street (today known as James Wood Street). There is a deep history on that street on the opposite corner, I briefly talk about in on my channel. I would say before the corridor area that you hit up on 11th, 9th and Vermont was the first spot for the first wave of war refugees that settled in the 80s in that area. The reason there were vendors there was because the first Salvadoran/Cuban market opened on Vermont & 9th known as Liborios Market and they sold our nostalgic food products. The area you hit up is about 15 percent of the remaining vendors on that street. It brings me sadness bc I remember the vendors by name, mostly single mothers, strong Salvadoran women that sold food to feed their families and was often harassed by the police, given tickets, and had their food tossed on the sidewalk. Much respect to you for covering that area.
@ricktatum2 жыл бұрын
Steve you are killing me. You think just like I do. You like to check out everything. You check every nook and cranny you flip over every Rock and check out everything. No matter if it's expensive restaurants. Our street vendors. Are catering trucks. The expensive and the poor. I like that in you. You show people everything about Los Angeles dining. That Street where they have all the El Salvadorian vendors I've been past their many times. I'm going to try that place out one day. Thank you for taking the time to show everyone all the different cuisines in Los Angeles. Keep up the good work Rockstar eater.

I have two drink suggestions😬…. 1st) Salvadoran Horchata…..is very different than other countries…..am I biased….completely lol. The original is a process….it’s made up of nuts, seeds, some rice, cinnamon sticks, roasting all of this making it into a paste, straining it. It can be water based or milk or both. The tricky part is straining it really well. 2nd) Atol de Elote…..this is a hot, sweetish, thick drink made out of corn….perfect for a cold day. Most Latin countries have their versions of atoles…..the varieties are endless! This one is my fav and the platano one (plantain one) Well…..thanks soo much for your reviews….they were fun and family friendly!!

It’s not as easy plus, all Latin countries have different slang and accents…soo when you would did your best to say Curtido it sounded as gordito, which means chubby or fat…..lol my fam said yep you’re also right if one eats, too much Pupusas we’ll end up chubby or fat😁in my understanding curtido means like vinaigrette or fermented basically the cabbage is made with vinegar…….our version of sauerkraut or kimchi😋. Curtido can also, be made spicy or non-spicy. They can also choose to use the red cabbage or the regular. Some curtido’s maybe a veggie version of carrots, cauliflower, and boiling onions (chili optional and no cabbage).

If you have the chance to visit El Salvador you have to do it you won't regret it El Salvador is so beautiful, the people is so kind The food is amazing And we have some of the best coffee in the world Is a small country but that's something good because you can visit so many places in a short time, you can go from the mountains, lakes volcanoes and the cold weather to the beach and have the best surfing experience in the same day, that's something amazing If you visit the rural areas every house is like a small farm, everyone has their animals like cows, horses, chickens and the vegetation is amazing you can find fruit trees literally everywhere, people just eat a fruit and throw the seeds on the side of the road and in a couple years a big Tree grown there, you can grab any fruit whenever you want El Salvador is simply amazing

Loved your reviews, my fam and I watched all 4 of them……we love hearing other people’s opinions on our food. I loved how positive you were being it was street……in my opinion street food is going to be limited in selection though, you definitely did us justice “thank you”, you are brave😬✌🏼I personally don’t try street food…. It’s just a me thing maybe😬but, my respects to you🙌🏼 I wish someone could have detailed things a little better🧐I describe curtido as our kimchi😋love kimchi! I would have liked for you to taste maybe a veggie Pupusa which you can choose from spinach, bell pepper, zucchini, or of a Salvadoran herb called Loroco. They also, make Pupusas out of rice flour….these are much lighter their not as dense as the original. In Salvadoran restaurant you’d be able to try more dishes rather than appetizers. I would recommend a Panes con pollo or pan chumpe which is a small baguette stuffed with either chicken or Turkey, it also has cucumber, radish watercress and curtido……super yummy it’s like our version on Vietnamese Banh Mi😋 2nd our version of Chile rellenos (we don’t use ground beef but use minced beef) 3rd Bistec Encebollado…..(cebolla means onion it has a lot of braised or stewed onions in a tomatoes and Bell Pepper sauce/broth) so the thin beef is in that stew. It is served with rice and beans on the side with hand made tortillas. 4th Sopa de Mariscos or some call it Mariscada it’s a seafood soup. 5th Salpicon it’s minced beef with mint, onion, radish served with rice, salad, I think refried beans(I personally omit the beans but, it’s all good) and handmade tortillas. 6th Caldo de Res which is beef soup it veggies and the beef, served with side of rice and handmade tortillas. 7th this one is rare but, if I see it on the menu I’ll order it, Relleno de Guisquil….it’s a vegetarian dish which is a type of squash that has been peeled and boiled and is stuffed with cheese then dipped on egg batter, then fried on both sides lastly they pour a tomato based sauce served with salad, rice beans of course handmade tortillas lol. Well, that’s alot but, thanks for making your videos interesting and positive!!!

Hey Steve thanks for sharing this video about salvadorean food. I like learning about other foods and culture. What place do you recommend in Korea town for Korean food?
@RockstarEater3 жыл бұрын
For Korean bbq: Quarters bbq, Jeom Yuk Jeong, Soot Bull Jeep, Eight Korean bbq, to name a few. For all around Korean food: Soban, Kobawoo, Chunju Han-il Kwan.

Típica frase salvadoreña 4:13 se utiliza para denotar traición de un amigo. Es como decir: no puedo creer lo que me has hecho.

You can have the TAMALE with the CURTIDO. It change the WHOLE game and some parts in El Salvador eat it with CURTIDO. Curtido is like Korean kimchi you eat it with everything. Lol
