I love your reviews. I appreciate your knowledge and understanding of sound. Beyond compare, on par with Danny!😃 One thing: it is not a thoroughly explained decay pattern, or an explanation of your recording process that draws ME in. It is, rather, the dissemination of emotion and heartfelt experiences that causes ME to buy speakers. Bro, give us a little more in that area. I can’t afford most of the stuff you review. But I live for your explanations of why I should!! Outside of graphs and measures! They are tantalizing, but it’s the OOOFH, this rocked me moments I want to hear!! Love what you do!❤️

Start from scratch and walk us through it…where did you put your treatments and why..and let’s hear a before and after recording comparison from pre-treatment and post treatment so we can hear the difference.

Man crushing!!!! Dear Sir. You are always entertaining and informed about how and why a speaker or amplifier, DAC, etc work in the manor that it does. You are a professional word smith you craft everything into sounds that deliver exactly how the product's would perform in a living space. Knowing what it's limited function's are and how to get the most out of the unit at it's price point is a "winner" overall.

Love the new room Ron. Everything is bigger in Texas. Room Dimensions, please. Also, the speaker distance from front and side walls. I'm also waiting for a 'holy grail' box tower speaker ( high end sound under $5k). The closest I've personally auditioned were Fyne Audio F702, but at $9k I can't afford them. Thanks Ron. It's hard for me, a 61 year old with a 42 year audio habit ( no, not hobby, but habit, as in addiction) to find truly knowledgeable reviewers on KZfaq.

Great review Ron, been looking forward to your thoughts and looking forward to the UBR52 review! Have a theory for you regarding that top end extension. I've never been a fan of those ridiculous metal straps manufacturers use for joining biwire posts, I'll bet you anything those are the culprit. I would bet if you have a set of high quality biwire jumpers on hand (hell, even some quality copper wiring) that if you swap out the stock straps the top end extension and air will return.

Ron - it would be beneficial if you could walk us thru what to expect from the various iterations of Elac speakers, specifically, stepping up from the Debuts (original, 2.0, Reference) and the Uni-Fi (original, 2.0, Reference) and the sound quality changes for the added $$$. It would also be good if you could include some comments on home theater use as well as 2-ch music.

Hey Ron, I would love to a thorough review of the NX-Studios. I know you had a discussion/ podcast kind of review with Danny but I think it would be interesting to see it in your "regular" review format. I feel like there is barely any information/ reviews/ impressions to find about these speakers which makes someone like me, who really want the build these, feel like taking a leap into the dark by doing so. TLDR: Please make me buy the NX Studios

How does the polk reserve compare to the elac uni-fi referance?
@decoryder
@decoryder 3 жыл бұрын
The right way to approach data is to go where it leads you. A quick calibration check could have been to re-test an already measured speaker in the new room, and compare measurements; if the new measurements fit the previous measurements, the room is not a factor - if there's a large delta using the new measurements when compared to the old, the new room is probably influencing the measurement results. As it stands, I have to conclude that the UFR52's don't measure all that well compared to some other ELAC products.

Nice short review. I hope listening session will follow soon with these speakers. One thing that i would really appreciate NRD if you could mention how far you tested these speakers from each other and the angle. Andrew Jones have described in Elac unifi 2.0 manual that for best soundstage image is to toe them in up to 15 degree. Its great info if you tested like that or not. PS i still love my unifi 2.0 towers and bookies since march this year :)

Fair - The community review and real life performance feedback ought to be of some value to the designers, that is .. if the designers actually care what consumers want .. or it will reveal how closed minded their business production truly is to just keep a steady stream of marginal products for consumers to feed on year over year.

I'm goona comment on the room V-3.. You have a few built in problems, and while you may not know you are hearing them making effect... I'll wager you they are. Unfortunately they are built in. The window on the left, the built in resonance generator on the right, er, I mean the cabinet with records in it. And the other resonance generator on the right, the fireplace. The windows contribution will be high freq. noise. If you go on amazon or elsewhere, and purchase a cheap stethoscope you can use that to actually listen to the sound contributions of various stuff, speaker cabinets, windows, equipment racks, everything. It takes a bit to figure out how to use it, the key is to put it on the item then lift off, soon you will get the idea. The cabinet and fireplace will produce resonances in the lower frequencies, you will never be able to identify their contribution specifically unless you can remove the items from the room, which you won't be able to do, obviously. In my world I had a crappy/muddy area somewhere in the 100-200 hz realm, simply could not fix it no matter what I did to the rig or the room. Finally I decided to completely redo the back of the room, where I had cheap wood bookshelves full of books and records, just like Paul McGowen says to... As I mentioned in another of my comments to you, play music when you do this so you can hear the effects. I had music on when I removed the bookshelves and I listened, in real time, as the muddy bass that drove me mad for the previous year.... vanished. If you can walk past the window outside... crank something up a bit and go outside and listen to the window. You should be able to hear the windows sound. In my palace the windows are -non top of the line items- and likely bolted to the cinderblock... they scream, they are horrible, I discovered this via a stethoscope in one room and noticed the same scream when walking outside past a window in the big music room... When I treated the glass in the small room the highs transformed.... and I was able to remove absorption I had hanging from the ceiling that I put up to deal with high frequency noise before I learned it's source. I used 1/4" x 2" round 30 duro sorbathane pucks on the glass to dampen it's vibrations down to be in tune with the music or less... and then there is absorption over the glass... and more... I would think a big 1/1 ratio rockwool plug for the fireplace would do. and the cabinets, that's your call, as I'm sure aesthetics will be involved. Cheers.

@TylerStout 3 жыл бұрын
Depends who you ask and what you listen to. If you ask me my answer is almost always yes until you're in speakers costing 5 figures each with multiple 10"+ woofers that are high excursion but even then subs would still potentially help smooth out the response if you have a particularly challenging room. However it really depends on the content you listen to, as if you listen to certain genres of music that don't feature as much bass you might not miss a sub but if you're listening to bassy music then it would be a big difference or if you watch movies then you almost always want a good sub that can dig down to 20hz. Generally you want to use multiple subs to fix issues in the response then after that whatever issues you have you would fix with acoustic treatments then anything else you would attempt to fix with DSP. Anthony Grimoni talks about this in pretty good detail on audioholics YT channel, definitely worth a watch.

To show on your graph definitively how much a room ads or takes away in dips and peaks of the spectrum. Sounds like the Reference are only an incremental improvement over the 2.0's; but at double the price and in a more attractive box. Seems like you're paying for the better looking box.... Comes down to preferring the roll-off or not. Which can be approximated using EQ or room correction curves anyway.... Best choice: get the 2.0's and use the saved money for something else... You weren't as excited about the References as you were with the 2.0 review.... Looks like the 2.0 improvement over the original UniFi's was much bigger than the Reference is over the 2.0's... So if you are coming from the original UniFi's, get the 2.0's and save your money.
