Cyberpunk was the game that finally killed my ability to ever get hyped for another game ever again.

I don't feel really immersed in these games much anymore. It doesn't feel like an escape anymore. More like a chore sometimes.

The double standard for From Soft games reigns supreme.

I think most ppl are judging elden ring on its size, and Difficulty. Theres nothing revolutionary about elden ring and the story is lackluster. Its overhyped, overpraised, they got a good marketing campaign and good branding and it is a good game I love it. But It's a 8/10 at best PERIOD.

I see what you’re saying, familiar concepts, not really enough ‘new’, whatever was taken from previous drawing boards have been implemented into new games and seen as revolutionary when most of it is reused in a non awe inspiring way. It takes the ideas moulds them into a new world with new designs new visuals new enemies new layouts but it’s not ground breaking level like it’s seemingly what most video games do regularly when a new title is released a reconstructed game taking ideas and placing them into a new game. I think it’s down to familiarity, what works and how well the game runs from start to finish as well as how well the games overall experience is. If the initial ideas have been revamped enough or executed better than it’s previous titles or if the new title seemingly shows excellence. That is seen is a ‘masterpiece’ in this day and age considering how awful last year was. Just enjoy it I guess but I stand by your point for sure.

It's a good game but it should not be 10/10. Reviewers are kinda going with crowd's hype now. It's not right. People treat the game like it's a revolutionary game, game changing, game of the decade. I mean it's a good game but it's far from great.

If you live in a basement and your sole existence is wrapped around playing dark souls games 24/7 then this game is the best game you have ever played. It's like these basement dwellers never played an open world game and to them this is absolutely mind blowing because they get to play it in their souls game. It is NOT the best game ever made. This does NOT feel like the best game ever made and does NOT even deserve to be considered the best game ever made. It feels like a dated game from 2016 that was released in 2022.

For me the game is lacking a lot: Almost no NPCs, no missions or significant story, just riding around slashing monsters who respawn when you come back, just boring after several hours...

Now that's a hot take. I'd consider it a bad take because the reasons you say it's overhyped are that it's good but not great, but you had already stated that they aren't really your type of games. The souls games are definitely for a certain type of player and from what I've heard from souls game fanatics..this is deserving of the hype. Maybe not the best, but among the best. I have a friend who has played all the dark souls 4+ times, Bloodborne 10+, and sekiro a couple of times, and he is loving elden ring. It's like cod fans loving a new cod, but someone who isn't big on cod or fps saying it's just another cod and not worth the hype. It's an amazing game for people who want that type of game.

I think most people who push themselves through these games love them. It's not over hyped in my opinion because this is their franchise at it's best. It keeps getting better each version and they have put every single thing from other games into this game with open world. It's just enjoyable and really big issue is stutter issue. We are talking strict gameplay wise this is best entry point for players. It's balance is damn near perfect and there is so much to do. It's understand why it's good and maybe not 10 out 10 for some people. When you look at the core of what they have built up to this point. This is combining all the efforts into this one game. Giving the player freedom to make the game as difficult or easy as they want it. Have different playstyles from stealth or magic or swords. You don't have this sort of freedom in a game since like bioshock to play the game with free choices. Even in rpgs you seem limited on what kind of characters you can build. You could argue that fromsoft has already done this yes. It's just best version of it and I recommend more players check this game out. It's worth the money on content alone.

You don't suck at these games. They're designed to be intentionally frustrating and dice rolley. The camera sucks. The lock on is atrocious. Enemies have infinite stamina and can attack 8 times if they want to without fear of stagger. Things work sometimes, sometimes they dont. Hit boxes are all over the place. Theres a billion different little problems w this game but fanboys just tell you to accept them and play through them so they can blame the cheap deaths on you and not the game being a cheap death dispensary

Just download Elden Ring on steam to see what all the hype was. Within 30 minutes I requested a refund. Hopefully I get my money back soon so I can buy another game.

It's the same old game... same engine, same graphics, same sounds, same character creator, same interface, same AI, same combat, same cryptic story telling, etc. And the open world, despite its size and beautiful art style, offers the same experience as the previous titles, which is kill enemies and find stuff. There is nothing new here, nothing else going on. Extremely overhyped and overrated game.

Critics criticized that there was nothing new about Forbidden west, but Ending Ring is almost identical to Dark Souls 1(mini open world), Dark Souls series. I want to call it Dark Souls 4. and just a game that displays strong mobs in a only wide field.

For me this is one of the only games where the hype actually exceeded the project for me but I can see how its not for everyone. I just wish more people could have that moment where these games finally click and you just get absorbed into it

It's not being reviewed, fans of the franchise are expressing their opinion. If you actually review this against the industry's benchmarks (using review criteria) it doesn't come close. This is AAA, the developer is big budget, don't believe quality starved morons on PC that are saying otherwise. If you have played all the previous releases in the franchise, take a drink every time you encounter re-used content in any respect.

This would be like cyberpunk if cyberpunk didnt have bugs. The only reason this game is getting this great of a reception is the wait. This game is my least favorite soulsbourne game of all time, by a decent margin. This is the most cookie cutter type game ive ever really played. This game is maybe a 6, at absoulute most. There shouldnt be enemys that can stunlock you, there shouldnt be respawn points 50 miles away from the boss, there shouldnt be a clear pvp meta, there shouldnt be a way to cheese every damn boss.

It's Funny I get your point totally. When I started ER - I thought it was so Refreshing to Play a New Game with Great combat mechanics what felt like a Old school game. Like I got these vibes from the 90's and early 2000's. Elden Ring is nothing New really it's just got that what made a lot of people fall in love with gaming back in the day. I think a big phrase for the triple AAA companies would be " Less is More ".. and I do hope companies Play and Study Elden Ring as it could do something great. Pajama Sam: Thunder and Lightning Ain't So Frightening is one the most challenging games I've ever played as a child. MDK was another. Most games nowadays do have that formulaic pattern that makes them predictable. Elden Ring is no different from this. Predictability gives leeway to less challenge. And so, the most worthwhile challenges I faced was when I was younger, during my generation of games. Elden Ring just kinda feels like I'm wasting my time.

I remember a time when a mediocre game like this one would have been rated 7/10. I'm now a pretty old gamer, I have been playing for almost 30 years, and I remember few real masterpieces (this is not one of them) which were carefully crafted in every single detail: Baldur's Gate, Deus Ex, System Shock, Morrowind, Max Payne, Diablo, Half Life, Fallout... and a dozen more I don't remember. The thing all these masterpieces have in common is that they were all game changers, the game industry was never the same after they were released and hundred of games took Inspiration from them. I almost cry if I think that now the gaming world is accepting this mediocre game, which is not revolutionizing anything, as a masterpiece. I feel sorry for this poor new generation of gamers which will never understand what is the real meaning of the word masterpiece.

It’s actually on par if not worse than Demon’s Souls. The only reason I’m still baring the game is for my friend’s sake who is playing his First Souls’s game ever in Elden Ring.

My question is, games really need to be challenging every single time to be considered good? That's why games creators put optional challenge to games and highers levels of difficulty for the player to choose. I'm doing this question because it seems the only reason why people like these games so much is because of the only difficulty mode. For me that doesn't make any sense. My girlfriend had a great time playing uncharted on easy. What's the problem of that? What If I don't want to spend hours doing the same thing just to get the rewarding felling? There are more beautiful, with better ux game design, with better combat than this one but people still prefer the challenge part. I really don't get it. I mean, is way harder get the platinum trophy in crash 4 than beat those games, if you guys want to be stressed.

I agree this game is not 10/10 , masterpiece most reviewers are claiming. Soulsborne and open world doesnt really mix with me. Dungeon crawling and dying over and over is already a chore with souls game, then you add up the exploration, which is usually most of the time worthless, this game is just tiring and not really fun. Sekiro is still the best FromSoft game imo

This game is way too easy compared to the Dark Souls trilogy, Bloodborne and Sekiro. I was always obsessively going for the Platinum but now they have introduced lot of new stuff that spoils the game for me. The open world doesn't add value. Was to be expected when it was announced to be an open world game. Of course will get the Platinum, but replaying the game with other builds is not something to look forward to.

This isn't some Activision bs that we're forced to play bc there's nothing else to play. That's why we're hyped. It's something we want to play.

Also, From Software has one of the most toxic, bigoted, and hate-filled communities this side of the solar system. The sheer toxicity of this game's fanbase ALONE make me hate this game without ever having played it.

My issue is with the fandom of these games. They're like a protected class that you're not allowed to criticize lest you be hit with insults left and right. Shit even the reviews for this game are a mess. You go on the Xbox store and it's either a 5 star masterpiece of gaming or a 1 star worst game ever. Then in between there's a bunch of people who rated it 5 stars just to put in the headline "You guys are crybabies. 5/5." It's a mess. Gamers need to be more mature about how they handle criticism. I actually get you, I tried Elden Ring and I quite enjoyed myself, but I feel like it ended up getting the cyberpunk treatment in terms of exposure, everyone made Elden Ring to be the Greatest Darksouls of all the Darksouls that can cure cancer with its loading screen, when in reality it's just a good game with some bugs and a VERY long loading screen, I still like it though

Well said and I see your point. It’s been a long time since the general public has actually received a good game release since everything has either been delayed or pushed back. Let alone any new xbox games that doesn’t even give a reason to buy an xbox series x. Consumers are just excited to be getting anything only because good games on release day are so rare now.

Elden ring was going to get good reviews regardless, understandable so sense if you like more of what dark souls has to offer, your definitely going to enjoy it. It Takes Two is a couch coop game that we've had tons of before. Like for example "Brothers: A tale of two sons" Two player help me figure out puzzle game lol

150+ hours, it's a good game, but it's overrated af. It is an open world DS3 with the same world building applied. It's a huge step back MP wise and it's effectively a running simulator. It's definitely the easiest game out of the entire line up. Non stop server issues are dragging the game down, as well as it's player base being toxic af.

I didn't know it was hyped when i bought it. I read about George rr martin writing for it a year or so back. So i bought it. I managed to see the Matrix in theaters without ever seeing a preview as well. It blew my mind lol and ive loved Eldon Ring. Get busy and wonder into things life is better that way.

I 100% agree, except that I think there are better souls games. Like Sekiro for example, that game has some of the best combat I've tried in any video game. Other than Sekiro, most of the souls games vary from "very good (8/10)" to being "average (6/10)". With Elden Ring being in the middle. edit: Every time I hear someone say "it's a 10/10!" I legit just start wondering if we played the same game or not. Either that or they've played 5 games in their life and they have low standards.

IMO I think the game met the hype. Just because the game isn't your type doesn't mean it can't be a masterpiece. Just like how people who aren't into classical would think nothing of Mozart, people who aren't fans of soulslike and open-world games wouldn't think the game is great. To me, the game meets what it was promised to be. An evolution of the souls genre with an open world concept. The open-world is executed incredibly well with so many cool things tucked away and incredible environment design & visuals, with a huge variety of areas and content. The environment also feels really natural, until most games where most places are just a copy-paste of previous areas with huge empty gaps in between. But as a souls fan, the bosses and areas still give me the challenge and dopamine when I finally beat it. With the AI in the game is so incredibly advanced and level design being so intricate, clearing an area like Stormviel castle or the main boss feels so good. The combat system has also been massively improved with ashes and weapon arts and more being added, the game feels like a breath of fresh air from the souls game and what ds3 was meant to be, with other additional mechanics such as horseback, crafting, and jumping really redefining the souls genre. Additionally, another main highlight of the souls genre is the setting and lore. The game looks beautiful from a design perspective, with the bosses looking so incredibly amazing, and the environment too, but there's also so many cool stories to be told just by exploring, from a lonely warrior on the beach to ancient giant stone warriors to a literally portal to hell. I would give it a 10/10 because of how groundbreaking it is for the souls genre with its strengths so well executed and minimal flaws. However, I still would understand how some would not enjoy it.
