Oh wow I know exactly who you're talking about. That was the first merchant I heard playing music. Ran into the area and heard the music like "wha..?" I was so entranced I just sat down next to him and enjoyed a moment of peace. I wish I could have done a whole questline for him because I was like "I just want to be your bestest friend!"

Same, also to me its more convenient to have people who you can buy arrows from, or sell duplicate armor pieces to everywhere (Without causing enemies to reset) rather then teleporting back to the hold every time.

If there was a donate option I'd probably do it, in skyrim donating to the poor gives a buff. Usually I spend my extra money wherever I can before a hard fight and always have some left over so it wouldn't hurt

Just because a random youtuber posts a video and hasn't had anything negative in their game or how they're playing through it; doesn't mean there AREN'T consequences. These games are very naunced and you can do some things that, depending on your playthrough, won't effect your playthrough; you might be going through the game differently than this person. I've followed a lot of youtubers guides on games over the years, only for their advice to lead to dead ends later on for a quick gain in the moment; they're here for content/likes/subscribers; and since the game is so new they don't know all potential outcomes for actions.

@@ShevaiAsan for example, the "merchant" in the Warmaster's shack they are refering to is actually Bernahl, which has a quest line starting from the Volcano Manor.

The merchants have a relationship to the secret ending for this game. That song some of them play is an ode to something sinister.

@@eddtru Well depending on where you encounter him they hit harder and more health. I think I've fought all of them, not to many like 4 or 5. First one I killed unlocked infinite thin bones and thick bones.

There are for killing most NPCs, but most the merchants are unnamed and inconsequential NPCs, so there isn't really a penalty. Or who knows, maybe there is one we just don't know about

Yes, pass time until night them use fast travel for grace. I've tested resting and not worked for me, just fast traveling for the grace. Use parry, that helps a lot.

@@LoboVolpi odd resting worked 100% of the time for me and ive seen other accounts too I think for most, just time change, stand up then rest again Try your method if fails Parry could yea, i prefered sticking close to bait normal sweeps which are easily punished after he ends with a thrust, breaking his posture with jump attacks

Considering their physic their Santa coloured armor How weake their horse looks and their non upgarded weapons in shop I highly freaking doubt they have any strength going for them other than a magic field which makes them invisible to anything violent

I've been to the warmaster shack many times at night and he never spawned for me. Not sure why.

He can appear during the day as well. I found him in a church of vows. Not sure how it works, but when I passed time two times in a row he appeared. No matter the time of a day.

@@TymekSoad he appears only at night but you have to set time to night at a different grace point then tp to the grace point where he spawns, So far found one in the turtle church, the dude that sells weapon ash skills and the isolated shack

@@alexdoan273 well.. fletched arrows only have more range, not damage. And power shot for bow is great for birds with unfletched arroa, you kinda get some value per arrow shot. And birds on the left shore from the starting grace, pinguin like don't get scared so easily, easy feather there.

@Maura Hausman I just assumed that meant if I attacked one of them they would all hate me. But nope. I was able to just stroll right up to each of them and stab them in their unsuspecting faces. I hope there’s no real consequences for doing so. But I can’t go back now. Maybe I’ll be nice to them on another playthrough

They're technically part of an evil faction, which you can learn from a hidden questline. This also leads you to the frenzied ending plotline. The only saving grace is that they are polite and genial. So you can technically wait till after you learn all of that or stick with the 'you don't attack me, then I wont erase you out of existence' approach.

​@Maura Hausman probably just warning you they attack with the flame of frenzy if you aggro them. Though I assume it's also possible a mechanism where all are aggro'ed if you attacked one was considered at some point in development, but never implemented.

I never got particularly far past Anor Londo, so that's the only killable fire keeper I know of. There are others?

@@justinjacobson7495 If you save Lautrec he will kill Anastacia, the firekeeper of firelink shrine. Quelaag's Sister is also a firekeeper and is found behind an illusory wall in the room where you ring the bell of awakening after killing Quelaag.

You can get pardoned for attacking friendly NPCs at the Church of Vows. The bell bearings are there so that you don't lose access to something important, like the inventory of a spell tutor, only to later realize you needed said spells. Though keep in mind that you can't update the merchant's stock with new spell books or similar things after they're dead. It's the equivalent to DS3's NPC ashes.

Well, Kale might get wrecked if you accidentally drag that Tree Sentinel into the church, so that's likely the reason. Keep you from being left out of a shop if they get caught in the crossfire.

They show up regardless of what you do as long as you're in the right location at night. You can spawn them by waiting till night in the location, standing up and sitting back at the grace.

This would be perfect. You should have to buy 1 of everything in their store to buy their bearing. I hate that I have killed all the traders but it doesn’t make sense to me with the time I have to keep them alive. I’d rather get to enjoy more of the game then fast travel to a pit of hell somewhere because I need a certain type of arrow or stone key.

But why, they don't carry over.

Hmm, I think the Blaidd one is the only one.

I don't think it ruins the Blaidd quest. I never did the first part where I need to use the snapping fingers emote to meet him. I still beat the Bloodhound Knight Dariwill boss and later in the game was able to meet him at Ranni's Rise to work on his quest.

As someone else has stated, you don't HAVE to meet Blaidd in Mistwood at all to progress his quest. That early game stuff in Limgrave is optional.

@@ImmuneToKnives I knew i f*cked up the storyline and i started to google it. I went to all places where he might be. 0 success. Then i just finished the witch quest, killed Blaidd and got his armor. But his quest was never available to me ;/

That has nothing to doing with killing merchants.

He's actually a clue that you can kill merchants for ball bearings. It's why he's called the ball bearing hunter. There are 4 unique versions of him at 4 different locations. Each rewarding you with a different ball bearing. Most of his attacks happens at night, where he temporary replaces the local merchant.

@@UnlimitedBick seems pretty explicit, he only shows up near merchents, at night, clearly and enemy and has the name of bell bearing hunter, telling you that he is searchign for bell bearings. since he only shows up near merchents that shows that the merchents are either an ally or enemey to them, and since he attacks you that rules out ally. simple logic tells you that he is there to tell the player that merchents drop bell bearings.

@@UnlimitedBick Fighting the one at the Warmaster's Shack was indeed what gave me the idea to try killing Kale on a throwaway character just to see if he would drop a bell bearing (in the first few days of launch before all these discoveries). I only killed him and the one that sells serpent arrows on my main character

all guides for the church of vows I have seen, have been very clear that it does not resurrect NPC's. It will reset your standing with them if you attacked them and made them angry. But if you killed them, that was it.
