I finally listened to the album this week after a 4 year stubborn boycott, and, man, was I wrong. It's not just genius. It's the BEST thing to happen to Broadway since Rodgers and Hammerstein! Lin-Manuel Miranda is one hardworking, multi-talented, creative GENIUS

People pretending that lack of interest is why theatres aren't packed full, and not the truth: that tickets are too damn expensive because no government is interested in funding the arts when sports are more popular with the common masses.

My aunt told me about the price of the ticket which here in the Philippines if ya had a card of senior citizen (or a person with disabilities card) you'll be watching it for free for every mondays only.. if the pandemic's gone, I would watch that film with my grandmas (and yeah i was PWD citizen)

Very true. I was lucky enough to go to an off-Broadway version of Wicked. My ticket, alone, was $65... and that's after a discount my sister was able to get for me.

This is so true. I honestly would stay attending theaters, but I simply can’t afford it. The few times I’ve gone to see a play or musical, it was LIFE CHANGING how much it touched me. 🤩🤩🤩 I love theater, it just doesn’t love my pocketbook... ... but, once I finish this degree and get me a higher paying job, I’ll be regularly attending with my daughter. 😄 (And of course after Covid)

Interesting how several said it brings the youth to the theatre...but nobody mentioned how it might give elders a way to connect to hip-hop. As an older guy, rap and hip-hop have always been a bit of an enigma to me. Maybe Hamilton is a way in. Disney, here I come.

It's not meant to be 100% historically accurate (that actually got clarified by the creator himself) but to tell a forgotten story in a compelling and interesting way. Exactly. The founding fathers weren't fantastic singers and dancers, either (probably), but nobody would ever complain about accuracy there. Total accuracy is boring. This is art, it's meant to stir up emotions and tell a compelling story, not recreate reality. Imagine 2 hours of largely old white men writing letters and speaking old-timey English. Nobody wanna see that.

"Maybe it's attracting more young people to Broadway." Maybe I'm just super immersed in the musical fandom, but there are tons of people already attracted to Broadway and there were before Hamilton. I'm not going to pretend Hamilton didn't get a lot of interest from people who may not otherwise be huge musical fans because it definitely did, but there are tons of young musical and Broadway fans today.
