The odd thing really is that this is much better than much of what is on today's tv really somehow so then too. Also of course too, Patricia Brake has sadly also passed away since the programme here was recorded so too. But thank you anyway of course.

I was 18 when it started and, like most of my friends, we all watched it. It was on at just the right time of the evening. Nobody missed it when it finished though. Really enjoyed watching this, took me back and the reason I did was because it's allowed the UK entertainment news today they're thinking of bringing it back!

I loved this, and it was a shame they axed it. The acting was not as bad as everyone makes out.

Thank you for this-most interesting too. Commentary by the actor Jim Carter (of Downton Abbey fame) is spot on too. It was a shame that Eldorado was cancelled when it did as it could have surely gone on to be more successful in time, but sadly we viewers were not to know that indeed!! Well done though too for the memories of course!!

I loved Eldorado. It was pretty dull and slow during the early episodes but then really picked up by the time it finished. I loved the Marcus/Pila storyline and was sad to see it end especially as ratings were up by the final episodes.

I didn't realise it was Alan Yentob's decision to axe it - and he usually makes such sensible decisions; oh well, there has to be an exception that proves the rule, I suppose...

After Corine became the script writer, it really stepped up a gear. Sadly it’s fate had been sealed. There was some incredible acting in it nearer the end.

For some reason , I have just started watching all the episodes of Eldorado on youtube . There s absolutely no doubt that in the early episodes it was awful, some of the acting by the younger cast was painful - that's not their fault , they weren't actors ! However, it did get better slowly .I think, with all the things happening in the EU now it would be so interesting to see if it could work again . I think it could ! I am a British expat myself although not in a EU country but believe me anyone who is an expat , all the writers need to do is life amongst an expat community for a year and the scripts would write themselves !!

The BBC wouldn't do anything so downmarket.... what a contradicting bullocks. When Michelle Collins aka Cindy Beale left eastenders she got her own TV show commissioned by the BBC called sunburn set in Spain with Sun Sea sex and Sand.

Yentob cancelled it without having given the new team a chance to save it. There was an outcry when the end was announced and it had a virtually cult following. More, it was key viewing, but Yentob was adamant and wouldn't even pay attention to viewer figures, which improved exponentially following the initial debacle. He obviously had another agenda, as he speaks about it here as if no-one watched it, yet I recall some of the papers having 'Save Eldorado' headlines, and a large and very vocal fan base.

The producer didn't learn anything from ITV soap 'Albion Market' when it was axes after 100 episode.'Eldorado' made 'Crossroads' look like a pantomime with it's tacky script and wooden acting from the inexperienced cast.

All they needed was when the new producer came in 2 months or 3 max too re group and let her get her bearings straight and she could of done wonders just a little time off would of paid off. I thought it was a nasty move by corrie though hitting a man when there down. All it needed was time for crying out loud they where're still building the set during filming

Eldorado was bad, but I wouldn't say it was much worse than the other soaps, with their pretention of being high-end satirical drama rather than the poorly made populist pap they actually are. I'd rather watch American soaps myself...at least they KNOW they're shit and have a bit of fun with it.

Six months to build a set from scratch, Cast and prep for air is ridiculous this programme was doomed from the start they weren't building a set at Elstree. £10million pounds of people's money just thrown away and no apology to the public, this is why I have no problem with people that don't buy a T.V license. Those first episodes were atrocious the acting was very amateur, I don't think Julia Smith's heart was in this project at all she always demanded quality from her cast.

It's hard, if not impossible to definitely know what the right call would be when faced with a situation like Eldorado. It's surely a lose / lose situation. If you go on pumping licence money into it and it continues to fail, you'll be criticised. If you pull it, you cut your losses but for the money already spent on a failed project you'll also be criticised. There's no doubt that it was a toxic brand poisoning the BBC's reputation. But because they never had chance to turn the situation around, that's what it shall forever be. Some 25 years on and Eldorado is still a byword for crap. The BBC shall forever have that burden to carry. Was Alan Yentob right to call time ASAP? Who knows. Maybe for everyone's sake they should have at least played out a turnaround strategy before shelving £10million worth of investment. But like he said, sometimes it's better to just cut your losses.
