Nigel Farage, freshly anointed as the new leader of Reform UK, held a rally in Clacton in Essex. [Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe]
He told the crowd that he believed Labour had already won the election - but he wanted to be "the voice of opposition" in Parliament.
His decision to put himself at the head of his party has caused consternation amongst Conservative MPs who believe the right-wing vote will now be split.

No news media is completely unbiased. However Channel 4 does fact check it's stories, unlike the tabloids. It's journalists also have to abide by it's charter when it comes to journalistic standards and it's not owned by a super rich billionaire like all the news papers (except the Guardian which is owned by a trust), so it's better than many. As I said all media sites have some degree of bias so I was always taught to: 1) Get my information from a wide variety of sources. That way you can compare stories and see what the majority agree on. 2) Be aware of any bias/vested interests. 3) Check who owns it. Doing the above may sound like too much work but it only takes two mins on the Internet. The tabloids only care about making money and as propaganda sites for their super rich owners so slag off anything they consider a threat to their riches and lifestyle. They don't fact check their stories, have no code of conduct/jounalisitic standards for it's staff and don't differentiate between factual news and opinion pieces or gossip. they have also been implicated in many illegal activities e.g. phone hacking, computer hacking, bribing police and public officials for stories, harassment, etc. All serious crimes. So what news sources should you avoid? - All tabloids. They all have a strong bias. The Mai, Express andSunare all VERY right wing. The Mirrotis left-wing. And the Star is a joke. - Anything owned by Aussie psychopath Rupert Murdoch e,g The Times, Sun, Wall St Journal, Fox. I'd add SKY even though he's sold his shares his obnoxious kids haven't and the current execs are all people he brought in. - ALL social media sites. Again they don't fact check and have strong bias's in line with their owners who publish stories inline with their own bias/vested interests. Which are the least biased sites and best for factual news? Ones that fact check their stories, differentiate between factual news and opinion pieces and have a code of conduct for their journalists? - Reuters. - AP (Associated Press) - The Guardian. - Blomberg - New York Times. - The Economist - The BBC. However it's worth being aware the Tory Government has been attacking the BBC and trying to intimidate it. e.g. Threatening to scrap the license fee, threatening to radically change it's operating charter, threatening to privatise it. The Government also appointed it's Director general who's a government stooge with dodgy links with the Tories, plus 3/6 of it's board of directors. Again all Government supporters. Why is it doing this? 1) Because the BBC is still the main source of news for much of the population, especially the older generation who tend to vote Tory, so they don't want any Government criticism on the BBC news. 2) Because The Government are in the pocket of Rupert Murdoch, many of the cabinet are current or ex employees of his, or else frequent attendees of his parties Murdoch has publicly said he hates the BBC as it stops him getting a controlling monopoly of British new media. Consequently under all that pressure the BBC rarely criticises the Government too much in it's main news. It may in it's political programs, but the Tories don't mind that as much because they have much lower viewing figures and the people who watch them tend to be better informed, more politically aware and harder to dupe anyway. www.techworm.net/2021/12/unbiased-news-sources.html www.makeuseof.com/top-unbiased-news-sources/

Yes. They mostly have super rich right wing owners. e.g. The Mail, Sun, Express, Telegraph, Times, etc Of course they brand anything else 'lefty' to discredit it to their readers who are mostly poorly educated and uninformed and unware of media bias, so easily brain washed/duped into believing things that aren't true since they don't know how to do proper research. Or simply can't be bothered. And of course if you hold far right views EVERYONE is a lefty including those with sensible, balanced centerist views. In reality amongst independent observers the BBC, Channel 4, ITN and The Guardian are held up as having relatively balanced reporting. Unlike many tabloids and social media sites they fact check their stories, differentiate between factual news and opinion pieces and have codes of conduct for their journalists rather than encouraging them to act illegally e.g. hacking phones and computers, bribing police and public officials for stories or harassing people as the tabloids do. Allegedly. As for Farage he's a conman who views his supporters as useful idiots to help him make money and get his nose in the trough. And that's all he cares about money. But then what do you expect from a failed stock broker, son of a stock broker who went to Dulwich College, an expensive public school that has fees of £676,000/yr for boarders? That's why he has no real policies, just find a scapegoat and blame everything on them. Historically populists and Governments always find a minority to scapegoat and blame everything on: The Jews, the Irish, an opposing religion, the unemployed, etc. Now it's immigrants. And before that it was blame the EU. But he can't do that anymore. Fun fact: 70% of voters who left school at 16 voted Leave. 68% of those with university degrees voted Remain. www.electoralcommission.org.uk/sites/default/files/pdf_file/2016-EU-referendum-report.pdf www.bbc.com/news/politics/eu_referendum/results Probably because being better educated tends to mean being better informed, knowing how to do your research properly and not being fooled by media bias and propaganda. Whereas the uneducated are much easier to dupe and tend to get their info from the tabloids. In fact Brexit has made things even worse. but then the whole point of Brexit was to benefit the big corporations by getting rid of EU controls which protect ordinary people but reduce corporate profit. Annoying things like human rights, workers rights, pollution and environment controls (e.g. sewage in rivers), food safety and animal welfare controls, etc. - Leaving the Customs Union has increased red tape and import cost for businesses, hence the increase in cost of living and empty super market shelves. Oil prices/the war in Ukraine and Covid didn't help either, but Brexit was the single biggest factor. - It's reduced trade, and therefore tax revenue and therefore money available for public services. - It cost billions, far more than all 47 years worth of EU membership fees put together. - We lost EU grants, and shared costs on joint projects and infra structure such as HS2 which will cost the tax payer billions more than if we'd still been in the Eu and able to get EU grants for the work as France, Spain, Italy and Germany did with their much more extensive High speed rail projects. - We now pay France a fortune to help with illegal immigrants whereas they were obligated to do so for free when we were in the EU. Brexit has wasted Billions which could have been spent on public services. And what did we get in return. Sweet FA. We should all sue Farage, Boris, Rees-Mogg, Gove, etc for the money they've cost us and our increased bills. Well those of us who weren't gullible idiots who voted for these con men.

The two main party leaders were dancing around the head of a pin in this, the first of televised debates-why ? Simply because the debt ratched up by this Tory Government is huge and leaves the incumbent Government after the 2024 election with an impossible circle to square. The state of the public finances are very bad. Sunak's approach is basically flawed and dishonest.Starmers approach is limited to Small increases in publc services and a change to the planning Rules allowing companies to expand and bring in more revenues yes ok but tbat may not be sufficient to do the job of reducing the debt Quickly. The tradtional way is either cut Publlic services and /or increase tax. The latter not very popular with the Public for obvious reasons. I wish the new Government well in it's deliberations for the tasks in front of them is not easy to overcome and will take time . More than one term I think.
