Making a Novation Launchpad From Scratch

In this video, I build my own DIY midi music launchpad from scratch. This project can also be referred to as a 64 button midi controller or Adafruit's untztrument soundboard. I used Adafruit's tutorial for the wiring and software, and I used Tinkercad to design a case to print out on my Tronxy 3D printer. All of the credit for this project should go directly to Adafruit.

Surprisingly easy on the electronic and software side of things, creating an interesting shape for the controller is the hard part, I feel if I was attempting something like this, it would have to be an interesting design to make it worth it, but I really like what you did, not being a musician will make a lot of people smile. 😊

The advantage of DIY is that you get to adapt the firmware to your own needs so it can be used in different ways that an off-the-shelf Launchpad can't.

I prefer the UNTZ over a Launchpad. It's smaller, more compact, and simpler. Yeah, setup is a hassle, but who really cares?

I did it and I don't have a 3d-printer. You don't actually need it, you only need the actual parts. Also, you don't have these things laying around, you buy them of course silly. This video wasn't titled "EVERYONE CAN MAKE A DIY LAUNCHPAD!".

in fl studio, there is the fruity keyboard plugin. it would be possible to map the midi values of the launchpad to that and use it on about any plugin

Instead of ripping the pins off of your arduino, I'd suggest investing in a desoldering pump or desoldering iron. You're probably not going to damage your components by just ripping off the pins but, there is a small risk. It's more useful if you wanted to remove something like a through-hole IC or possibly reuse the pins for whatever reason. Anyway, good video and well presented.

The adafruit Trellis has no velocity sensitivity, so no. And the actuation pressure varies, but it's about 200g or more.

Here's what Adafruit says on their website "[This Diy "Launchpad"] will not work with the Arduino Uno, Mega or other boards. Must be the Arduino Leonardo, or a 100% compatible board based on the ATmega32U4 microcontroller." - Phillip Burgess learn.adafruit.com/untztrument-trellis-midi-instrument/first-steps I hope this helps.

Really should use heavy wire - like cutoffs from resistor leads - to join the boards together. Solder alone is not strong enough.

Sorry this is currently not for sale. However, Adafruit does sell a kit for this www.adafruit.com/product/1929 all you need to buy additionally is, an arduino leonardo and some wire.
