Can't Get It Out of My Head" is a song written by Jeff Lynne and originally recorded by Electric Light Orchestra (also known as ELO). First released on the band's fourth album 'Eldorado' in September 1974, the song is the second track on the album and follows "Eldorado Overture." The song was released in November the same year as a single.
The song became the band's first top 10 single in the United States, reaching number 9 and helped boost public awareness of the band in the U.S.; however, back in the UK the single and LP failed to chart. In 1978, it was included as the lead song on the four-track The ELO EP (UK release), reaching number 34 on the UK charts. The song has appeared on many ELO compilation albums.
The song reached #19 on the Dutch Top 40 chart on 15 March 1975
the website Jeff Lynne Song reports:
'There was a promo video for 'Can't Get It Out Of My Head' produced that features the band miming to the single version of the song. It starts off showing the exterior of an English building on Forshaw Heath Lane in Birmingham, then zooms into a small building beside the main building that is marked "Forshaw Heath Social Centre Hall" and fades to show the band playing in a very small room, as if the band is playing inside the building (although they may likely be on a sound stage). It's a very small, crowded room and there is no room for the band to move about. Each band member except Hugh McDowell is wearing a t-shirt with a logo for Avro's Toppop; Bev and Richard's are red while all the others' are yellow. Hugh, who had apparently just rejoined the band, is instead wearing a blue long sleeve shirt, but an Avro's Toppop sticker is clearly attached to his white cello and it gets several close-ups in the video. Avro's Toppop was a TV show from the Netherlands, modeled after the UK's Top Of The Pops, and presumably they were the sponsors of the video. Both Jeff and Kelly are wearing black shirts over their t-shirts, with Jeff's also having a print of large white wings across the chest and shoulders, which would make an appearance many more times in the following years. It's the first appearance of Mik Kaminski playing his famous blue violin and it's also the first appearance of a quite nervous looking Kelly Groucutt in the band.'
This historic Toppop recording was recorded in Forshaw Heath Social Centre Hall in Birmingham in February 1975. It was first broadcast by Toppop on 14 February 1975

What I'm really grateful for is KZfaq. All of this wonderful music from back in the days most people on here cherish and wax nostalgic about is right here at our fingertips. At almost 78 years of age, my memory is still like a steel trap, and song titles will spontaneously pop into my head from the 60's, 70's and even into the 80's. I'll go to KZfaq search, and there it is ready to play. How awesome is that?

Well said Luke, if we could just gather all of the like minded people and collectively migrate to an uninhibited planet and restart humanity but this time take care to all live in a constant state of gratitude eliminate greed and self serving behavior and for goodness sake value and care for one another based on love instead of who's the richest or has the most material possessions. Luke while I'm dreaming on what could be let's just ban the concept of money all together. Pray that our decendents will live to a ripe old age without ever knowing what money is.

I live in a city in the Northeast US. That city has been destroyed by Covid 19 and Donald Trump. How many times did my friends and former family, two of whom are now dead, cross the bridges into that city in the 70’s to the sounds of ELO? The first tune I recall was Telephone Line, and I can still see the spires of that city with the moonlight reflecting on the water. Idk what all this means. But like his musical forebear Claude Debussy, the Maestro Jeff Lynne and his timeless melody is forever etched into my soul. 🇺🇸

Midnight, on the water I saw the ocean's daughter Walking on a wave's chicane Staring as she called my name And I can't get it out of my head No, I can't get it out of my head Now my whole world is gone for dead 'Cause I can't get it out of my head Bank job in the city Robin Hood and William Tell And Ivanhoe and Lancelot They don't envy me Sitting 'til the sun goes down In dreams the world keeps going 'round and 'round And I can't get it out of my head No, I can't get it out of my head Now my whole world is gone for dead 'Cause I can't get it out of my head And I can't get it out of my head No, I can't get it out of my head Now my whole world is gone for dead 'Cause I can't get it out of my head, no how, no now Source: LyricFind Songwriters: Jeff Lynne
