I have to add, as an Electro Mechanical Engineer, I do not use any of this Plastic tape, I do not carry any, I have no need for it. It is only plastic sticky tape and not "Electrical" in any shape or form. It is however a serious fire risk, when used by dodgy DIYers. Simpy, if you have to use any of this stuff in any Electrical installation, you are not using the correct equipment / materials in the first place. And NO you can't use it to repair a damaged cable, you can only replace the cable with a new piece, it is dangerous to put this tape on any electrical installation, especially at mains voltage. Ban it, it has caused many fires, some lethal. That is my 50 years professional opinion. Stop using it.

PVC tape has about 1 kv bdv. Fr pvc tapes are available. Basically it is used for LT applications( 220-230v) . It can be used to cover areas where accidentally someone might touch a wire that has left it’s place and is live.Good friction cotton tape costs 4-6 times good qualities are in short supply. Most tapes are a fire hazard in its manufacturing units. That included the so called water based tapes. So carefulness is essential.
