Claims that the oil industry opposes so-called green energy is unfounded. A regulatory agenda that attempts to reduce petroleum consumption will actually greatly increase oil company profits. EVs may be reducing the rate of the increase in oil consumption globally, but global demand for oil and nature gas continues to rise. The petrochemical industry is needed to manufacture solar panels and EVs and many of products and services in sophisticated economies require fossil fuels. India has become the world's 4th market for vehicles. If oil consumption used for transportation declined other uses for oil will continue to create high demand for fossil fuels. Oil companies have tax advantages for investing in subsidized green energy.

2 hours for charging? Majority of the EVs today charge between 20~30 min from DC fast chargers. If she is talking about level 2 charger, they require 6~8 hours of charging. I don't understand where this 2 hours charging time comes from?

'you just set a route, and it tells you where to stop, and you have it planned out in advance' what a nightmare. I decide where I go and when I stop, not my car, and it's certainly not to spend half an hour at the back of a crappy parking lot every 200 miles.

when you have 10 chargers and eveyone is plugged in, its way way slower...and it takes time to get there, do the infinte line...tesla is one thing, all the rest is way behind and 2 hours is still a good time now. good luck with it, i stick to my horse

EVs are only a good choice for someone who always buys a new vehicle every 2 or 3 years. Most Americans only purchase used cars. A 2nd hand EV might be a good choice but concerns about the battery continue to defeat a vibrant used EV market in 2024.

US commits to EV or not has nothing to do with China or any other country. US generates the most pollution per capita in the world, EV or not, reduce pollution for future generation is necessary and again it has nothing to do with China or any other country.

I'm in Europe, so that might change the experience. Been an owner of a 24kwh nissan van (env200) for over two years now, and everything accept the range (90 miles per full charge) has been great. I've saved over 5000 euro on fuel costs alone compared to driving my previous petrol car. And zero maintenance cost so far. Even with the short range of this first-gen van, we've driven to Belgium from France and it is perfect for day trips to the beach on the weekend. On top of that I can honestly say this has been my best, most trouble free, cheap to run vehicle ever. I'll be back in a diesel 4x4 at some point as I plan to move the family to a remote Pacific island, and I will miss having an EV. Just my anecdotal evidence, and it is sad to see the misinformation push-back from the fossil fuel industries pushing stories like in this film.

Well, if the US could manufacture low price, quality cars like China, you could most certyainly afford one. The small BYD Seagull would cost you US$11,500 if available in the USA - and there are literally hundreds of o/s cars available under US$40,000. It's simply not true to say that ev's are unaffordable.

Sad situation for sure, but since the average BEV and ICE vehicle prices are near the same, you won't be able to afford any new car. Fortunately, the used market for BEVs is becoming viable, so good used BEVs are affordable.

Cost more than the average person can afford without everlasting finance, massive devaluation, huge repair costs if its even possible. No value when trying to get a newer model, dealers dont want them. Tyres wear out at low milage.if there were no subsidies no one would buy.

Interesting they don't have Tesla commenting! They would debunk 100% of what they are negatively saying. It is not more costly to recycle batteries. This guy is totally wrong. Tesla pretty much recycles ALL of their batteries. Also that guy is at a Tesla supercharger, it no way takes 45 minutes. 25 minutes at most! Love the lady, "when I talk to auto dealers". Other than Tesla, auto STEALERSHIPS can't make money on electric cars. Oh wait nobody wants wants an electric car: Here's Tesla's annual revenue from 2020 to 2023: 2023: $96.77 billion, 18.80% growth 2022: $81.46 billion, 51.35% growth 2021: $53.82 billion, 70.67% growth 2020: $31.54 billion, 28.31% growth The reason the government is investing in electric cars is because the legacy AUTOMOTIVE MANUFACTURERS are lobbying the government for more money because Tesla is going to put them ALL OUT OF BUSINESS! Andrew Wheeler is talking rubbish about batteries. They are more expensive to recycle now because there are not enough used one yet to make recycling them cost effective on a scale basis. No one it putting them in land fill.

Many of these "Experts" are quoting really old new. Batteries are almost totally recyclable now. I agree the government should not mandate that people have to buy EVs. Economics and infrastructure improvements will make this happen. ....like when we went from horses to cars. Edit: after watching the whole video, your agenda is clear based on your data and "experts". It was really stupid to base your info of legacy car experts and republican chants. (I'm an old republican). There are more tesla chargers than Chevron gas pumps. You neglected to note how much more the government has subsidized gas. The number one selling car, including gas cars, was the Tesla Model Y. COME ON! Ohhhhh. I just realized, you are paid by the oil companies. Nuf said.

Anyone who complains about EV is obvious they have never driven one. For now and until battery range is improved including more charging stations, I highly recommend buying an EV and a hybrid if you need to cars in your family. EV for around town or daily chores and hybrid for long distance travels. I’ve driven an EV up the hills of San Francisco and I got to say the power is unmatched!

This video is either embarrassingly uninformed or it must be considered as oil lobby propaganda. The experts don't seem to understand what they are speaking about. It doesn't take 2 hours to charge an EV. "Rare earth" elements are a specific group of elements that are not needed for EVs. If you start from the abundant evidence that it is good for the economy and health to stop burning fossil fuels as quickly as possible, we either make EVs work or it is back to horses. So a video such as this should be discussing whether our future would be better with EVs or horses. EVs are improving rapidly. It is wrong to think about today's EVs in 2030 or 2032. By then EVs will be cheaper and better and few people will want to choose an ICE vehicle. We have to recognize that fossil fuels are the past and we have great emerging opportunities as we leave fossil fuels behind.

@@akennedystocks I am not sure Tesla has built adequate charging statiobs throughout all the states. If so, why can't other EVs be charged at Tesla's charging stations unless only the Tesla drivers can use them or the charging systems are different. But then you have the power grids to think about. Tesla charging stations still have to suck the power from the power grids which according to these people, the US power grids can't at present support so many EVs. Although Telsa has battery storage backup, but not enough.

I live in Florida and Nevada and travel in-between and there really isn't any power issues unless you want to believe in the oil propaganda. As far as Tesla the legacy automotive manufacturers AND STEALERSHIPS don't like or want electric vehicles. About 80 percent of STEALERSHIPS revenue is NOT BASED on new car sales but in service and maintenance. So how are they going to survive with electric cars. It is simple, they are not going to survive.

@@whiteknuckles Other than the two broken states of California and Texas there is NO signs, warnings or news of shortages in the grid. Matter of fact most people charge in the evenings when many large government buildings and businesses are not open which helps to create excess capacity. As far as the over 50,000 Tesla chargers WORLDWIDE, if you had a Tesla and it took it across the United States you would know that it is a challenge not to find a supercharger along your route that would pretty much get you to 80 percent in about 20 minutes. Don't care about the other feeble competition outside of Tesla they just want to sell their gas cars anyway and pretend like Elon Musk never made the first practical electric car capable of driving across the United States nearly by itself.

There is no solution. You can't just build a couple dozen nuclear reactors and redo the entire electrical grid of a state as big as the US in a couple of years even if you would have access to unlimited amounts of money. Mass scale electric transportation by 2030 is a pipe dream it will take decades and huge advancements in battery tech.

@@rolanddeschain965 Rare earths are not rare. The reason they are expensive is because they tend to occur together and they are difficult to separate. Electric vehicles don't even use rare earths in a lot of cases.

But the mandates for EVs are not numbers, they're percentages. You don't have to sell many EVs to get 85% of new sales, you just have to crush ICE sales to near zero- this is how they did it in Norway.

We have to make protection of our groundwater a priority. Hearing that used batteries' chemicals can leach into ground water is enough to turn me off to supporting EVs until a better solution is found for battery disposal.

Better use the resources to build better gasoline cars, EVs are not cleaner, are not environmental friendly at all, don't just look at the car itself, look at how electricity is generated, by burning something !! unless all power stations use nuclear but that is not possible, more electricity means burning more fuels and more emissions.

@@alleng012985 Insensitivity? Oookkk... The air head making silly points.. It does not take 2 hours to charge a 200+ mile EV. Average daily miles driven is less than 40 miles per day. A vast majority of people don't drive over 200 miles per day to have to wait longer than 15 minutes to charge. But even with a 300 mile EV, it would take less than 30 minutes to charge, not 2 hours. Also, a vast majority of people will only need to charge overnight in their home, and have plenty of juice left for several days, most won't ever need to use a public charging station unless they go on a long road trip.

EVs are inferior in almost every way compared to gas cars. They accelerate well, but they depreciate faster than they accelerate.

Accelerating from 0-60 in 3 seconds is very useful when taking the kids to school or popping to the grocery store 😂

Yea when they don't compete in price, range, confort they advertise the acceleration. Why do I need hypercar acceleration in city or anywhere? 7 sec from 0 to 100km/h is more than enough for anybody.

@@davepaturno4290 he doesn't know that 90% of electricity comes from non renewable sources like coal petroleum... And there is lot loss of energy in reaching out homes... Look when Russia stopped oil export to European countries and how that impacted European electricity.... Beauty about Combustion engines is that it is atleast 95% efficient.. And from same amount of fuels you get lot less of distance from vehicle...

EV's are everything but eco friendly, they have much bigger impact on the environment than combustion engine cars. 13 rear earth minerals compared to 5 are needed to make an EV. Amount of increased mining will be devastating for environment. And electricity itself comes from the same fossil fuels, it is just nonsensical. EV's were bad idea in 19th century when they appeared for the first time and they are bad idea now.

the EVangelists would say big heavy toxic batteries would be recycled after their use in BEVs ends. this narrative has no basis in fact because we have no global/massive BEV batt pack program anywhere in the world! meanwhile remember plastics and how recycling would make them harmless? what happened to our oceans, bodies of water inland and even our bodies (microplastics in all humans born after a certain year)? i fear the ecological disaster brought about by battery packs in BEVs would make the one caused by plastics look benign by comparison :(

Time will tell if ev is the right choice or not, if it's the right choice then US will get more left behind even to EU Almost all of the speaker in this interview doesn't have the brain to say the main reason why many americans don't buy ev is because ev cost more than the ice vehicle in US and the government also doesn't want to build ev infrastructure for the ev user, always speaks about the problems that might occur without thinking and finding the solution to it, if the eu can do it why the us can't do it too, what a disgrace for us people

Actually, the EU is pulling back on their initial, misguided plans to eliminate even hybrids, which are much solutions for the majority of low -to -middle income households.
