Hi, is there any other way u could explain the general sign convention when applying KVL? And in the case of loop 2, why is the equation 8 i2+ 6 i3 -4=0 instead of 8 i2+ 6 i3 +4=0. Isn't the current flow opposite to direction of loop for 4V voltage source? Many thanks :)
@MichelvanBiezen
@MichelvanBiezen 8 жыл бұрын
Since you are going around loop 2 in a counterclockwise direction, you cross the battery from the positive end of the battery to the negative end, thus there is a 4V voltage drop. When picking current directions in each branch it doesn't matter if the directions are correct. (The assumed directions could be opposite to the real directions). Then work out the problem as is shown. If you picked the incorrect direction, your answer(s) will come out negative.

Hii I have a question about the battery is that inside of the battery you have electrons because of redox rxn's and there are electrons more (8 electrons for example) at the negative terminal and there are less electrons at the positive terminal (3 electrons). And I found out that at the negative terminal the electric potential of 8 electrons is (-8J/C) and the electric potential at the positive terminal, the electric potential of 3 electrons is (-3J/C) and when I take the voltage of the 2 points of electric potential then I got two possible answers that is +5V and -5V and I am not sure which one should I use???
@MichelvanBiezen
@MichelvanBiezen 2 жыл бұрын
The side with the least electrons (let's call it A) is at a higher potential than the side with the greater number of electrons (let's call it B) Then A - B is + 5 V and B - A = - 5 V

Can we apply Ohm's law for 4 ohm resistance and 10 v voltage? In that case current I1 will be equal to 10/4=2.5amp.which does not match with our I1.
@MichelvanBiezen
@MichelvanBiezen 5 жыл бұрын
No, you can't use the simple Ohm's law equation here because you have multiple voltage sources. Each source affects each branch in a way that is difficult to predict, unless you use Kirchhoff's rules.

That is an algebra trick in order to eliminate one of the variables. Note that after multiplying the top equation by 2 and the bottom equation by 3, the constant in front of I1 is the same one being + and the other - Thus when you add the 2 equations, you will eliminate I1

Sir , I have a question What will happen if we take one loop clock wise and the other one anti clockwise Or one of them anti clockwise and the other clockwise.

It doesn't matter. You will get the same result. (but you have to keep track of your voltage rises and drops according to the direction you choose. Note by reversing direction, you'll get the negative result of the result you got from your original direction.
