Heya guys. This is the 2nd tutorial video on electro swing dancing. In this one I am showing you how to perform a basic T-step. Music in the video is by Darren Curtis.

Good work so far :) Just one thing that bothers me a bit: You're telling us to anchor on toes (as in tip-toes), but from what I've seen (and what I've been doing myself) is anchoring on ball of the foot, not the toes. I know I'm grasping at semantics here, but I think it's important differentiation. Another thing I thought about: How about a "Beyond the dance floor" or "Things I wish I had known before starting" tutorial series? A set of tutorials that delves into important background stuff, like getting enough rest, not overdoing it on practices and avoiding possible injuries etc. From a newbie dancer's perspective that'd be super interesting to watch.
@MatthewAshworth5 жыл бұрын
Hiya. Well, to answer the query, yeah, you're right, it's technically the ball of the foot together with the toes. Perhaps I'll make it clearer in the future tutorials. When I say toes, I mean the toe end of the foot, rather than the heel end. :) And that's a nice idea about the other factors that go into practice. This is definitely one of those dance styles that tires you out quickly and you might find yourself having an ache in some muscles during the first few weeks of practice (I did).

Matthew Ashworth an Indian friend of mine made the topic of ethnic background really catchy for me, and I’ve used to listen to your TQ builds a couple of years ago. I’ve watched one of them again recently, and then I was like “Wait, he sounds like British, but there’s something that makes it not really complete”. I honestly thought that you might be a British by citizenship, but who moved from Eastern Europe. I have a guy at the uni, who’s British as well, but Albanian by birth. So he’s got British accent, but not complete one. Sorry for disturbing.

Matthew Ashworth hahah, no problem. Yeah, it makes sense, I know the Soviet part of your response, cuz if you check my name, you’ll realize that I speak Russian. What you said was my very first assumption. After watching you for the very first time, I was like: “You got the accent, but still sound so Russian”. And then I thought that it cannot be, how can a guy with such an English name be a Russian (or Russian-speaking in your case). Wow, that’s surprising.

@@ilyadavydov9047 Thanks. Yeah, the Russian language is so widespread among all the ex-Soviet countries. Although less nowadays than back then, but the prevalence still exists. I didn't know my Russian accent was so recognizable. :D So are you from one of the ex-Soviet countries too or are you from Russia perhaps?

@@blurryme6915 Thank you very much for the kind words! To alternate the footing, I'd suggest try one or all of these: 1) putting the foot right next to the one you're switching to, 2) putting the foot just a bit in front of the one you're switching to, 3) putting the foot just a bit behind the one you're switching to. See which way works best for you, get comfortable with switching, and then try out other ways mentioned too. The main thing here is to switch your weight just as you switch the feet. So at that instance when you put your first foot down, switch the weight onto that foot before lifting the other foot.

How does one keep there balance
@MatthewAshworth4 жыл бұрын
That can be tricky at first. I'd say start first with moving your foot only slightly to the side (not too far from your centre of mass). Once you get comfortable with that, try moving it further. Try also to get comfortable twisting on the ball of your foot (might want to try that separately first before combining it with moving your other leg).

Matthew Ashworth thanks. I’m an Irish dancer so I thought this would not be too hard, but the center of gravity and weight distribution feel so different my body gets confused. haha

It was a custom-made song specifically for these tutorials by a musician friend of mine. You can download the song here (though please credit 'Darren Curtis' if you use this music in a video): drive.google.com/open?id=1Lko19WJUy28FnTgivZ_dg5V3PIxSJx47
