Hello. Sorry for a delay in reply. It sounds like perhaps your foot lands at an improper place, perhaps it lands a bit too much in front of you. Are you sliding the other foot backwards at the same time as this one is landing? It should land almost directly under you, sort of flat onto the ground with both heel and toes at the same time. Perhaps best to try it out on a smoother floor first in case if your other foot is not sliding back enough.

I think leg stretches might help. If you stand up straight, then place one of your legs back and one forward. Make sure the back leg's heel is on the ground, and then try to shift your body forward to stretch it. It's a good stretch for many activities, even for running.
