Well it might seem like he's just a big clutz, but every shock is actually intentional. It seems stupid but it really helps getting people to understand that electricity is dangerous, even if you know what you're doing.

I have one identical. I can touch the arc directly too. If we set it to like 2 pulses per second, it's much less painful. Well, it's more painful than simple static shocks, but i can keep it arcing to me continuously and indefinitely if i want. But i would not be able to tolerate a higher rate.

for putting the double winged wire on top, would it work to put a grounded ring of wire around the coil to prevent it from arcing to the base where the driver is? Get some 18AWG, and make a hoop that you place around the coil, and connect it to a grounded wire or an ESD bracelet. Or would this cause the arcs to push towards the hoop, instead behind the ends of the wire?

I've watched alot of your videos I have learned alot from you thank you. I am currently building my 3rd Tesla coil. My first was a pulse generator about a foot tall my second is a zvs driver with flyback about 2 foot tall and my current project is a 4 foot tall coil with an NST and rotary spark gap I can't wait thanks for your information it's helped alot. I'm gonna save for a one Tesla those little units are pretty powerful. Thanks again

10:05 @electroboom Here you said the emitter for the top igbt is switching high and low AF, but why didn't they use a "p-type" igbt? In CMOS they use pmos for pull up network and nmos for pull down network

IGBTs are used almost exclusively in power electronics. P-Channel transistors are extremely rare there because in silicon holes are far worse conductors than electrons. Also, when driving huge voltages as you do in power electronics, you can't do it like in CMOS. If you switched one transistor on the same time you switch off the other one, there would be a short time when you have a short circuit. And since power igbts switch much slower than small logic transistors and also drive much higher currents, this would be fatal. Therefore, in power electronics you always use a dead time when driving the high side and low side transistors.
