Although a MCU could help with timing…. Like keeping on the electromagnet on longer than the photoresistor is activated. Great Scott has a great video on the pros and cons of traditional circuitry vs Arduinos, builds an electromagnetic launcher with a MCU and without as an example. Very similar project.

I can't get over your using transistors to build a binary adder. I would have used TTL logic gates - but your expertise is way beyond what I know.

someone probably mentioned it, but, your mosfet may have been blowing because the gate was only being fed 6 volts at the moment of trigger, which isnt fully turning on the mosfet, that high drain-source resistance is no bueno when you are calling for ALL the amps you can muster. maybe use a buffer transistor and see if that helps enough to be able to use the capacitors again. That will help save your battery from being beat up too. Awesome videos dude, glad I found your channel.

This is quite fun. Contemplating building my own, but instead of just using a fixed delay between opto-sensor and coil-turn-on, use a variable delay that depends on the speed of the ball. This will allow higher efficiency energy transfer and could be pretty easily implemented by comparing each opto-sensor with the previous one.

This is pretty cool, could have fun with that making an elaborate "train track" system of balls, could even have diverters so they randomly take different paths. Light sensors to track where balls are and more coils throughout to boost or even slow down balls so they don't collide with others. Could be a fun project to tweak all of it.

Very nice video, explains things pretty well. The only thing I would offer a criticism on is the video's title, since by the normal definition, this is not a "ring accelerator". That name is usually given to devices that continuously accelerate something in a ring/circular path, achieving very high speeds, whereas this device only gives a little kick to the ball in order to keep it moving. Yes, it briefly accelerates the ball, but then the ball coasts the rest of the way. It is really just a novel implementation of a DC motor. I own a commercially produced product of this same kind, having six electromagnets distributed around the circular track. I have not attempted to reverse engineer the circuit on each of the circuit boards (each electromagnet has its own identical printed circuit board), but I did note which components are on each board, and from that I assumed that a simple circuit, nearly identical to what you came up with. I think that the only real differences between the two circuits is that A) the one I have uses an IR LED and an IR phototransistor, and a driver transistor (probably a BJT) between the phototransistor and the MOSFET's gate.

I love the compactness. Few questions, can you connect 12 coils in serial? Can you output or induce current to a secondary coil to create a magnetic field for levitation? Can you share a parts list for that beautiful driver which is like a work of art.
@HyperspacePirate
@HyperspacePirate 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, multiple coils can be used. In my video on version 2 of this device, i used 4 coils, but more can be added. The working concept is the same as a coilgun which can accelerate ferrous projectiles several hundred m/s. The coil could be used for levitation if it was powered by high frequency alternating current or driven by a position sensing feedback controller. As for the parts, you can pretty much use any MOSFET, and the trigger consists of generic resistors and an LED + photoresistor. There's no specific part numbers that are required to make it work, it's all very generic

The ARV uses similar quartz ring, many more accelerating magnets. The content of the toroid are nanoparticles of ferrite,mercury neodymium 52 nanoparticles as well as cobalt in nano particles and Barium.The hard part is to pressurize the contents to 200,000 atmospheres. Once you get the mixture turning, as it accelerates it centers in the toroid and does not touch the walls. The mixture turns into a plasma . At that time a secondary coupled in the middle of the toroid gets electricity induced which will later bbe use for other purposes. Continue accelerating, and a corona effect will be formed. Accelerating further will cause a white glow to involve the toroid and extend outside the test bench . That is when the “magic” starts. If you have the toroid experiment setup on a piece of wood or metal, using a non ferric scale (I used a wood fish scale) as the white glow increases, the weight of the apparatus will slowly start decreasing. I managed 5-7% of weight reduction. One of the individuals who was watching me with a grin, explained to me that the white light is a field that in part or totally “hides” M from E=MC^2. Just rotating the field only goes so far Using capacitors one can make a modified Hartley oscillator that when tuned is able to completely hide the Mass of the toroid And attached vehicle to not only does it hide the mass, but it bends light around the object, therefore turning it invisible or somewhat transparent. The crafts currently made by a consortium of Boeing & Lockheed in Pasadena use toroids 10 meters in diameter! These are the flying triangles that are commonly seen. I had knoledge of the TR3-B which is the most common flying triangle see. It was able to “hop” short distances by bending space using a complex capacitor based mechanism that projected the field within line of sight. No, I am no longer pervy to the advances made in the last 30 years. Nevertheless 8:41 the new TR3-G is capable of transluminal travel by bending space over long distances. From 40,000Km above earth orbit to the Alcione Solar system in the Pleiades 240 light years away in less than 2 earth hours. You get there at the time you left. If you see a flying triangle in the sky notice the circle in the center with a white light; it looks like “an explosion that does nog go anywhere”. Too bad I was only a physician, not a physicist. So, this is all I can convey from my observations. BEST OF LUCK. IF I WAS ABLE TO MAKE THE DEMO MODEL WORK WITH ASSISTANCE, YOU HAVE THE MATH KNOWLEDGE TO TAKE IT UP TO HALF OR FULL SCALE! Also I recommend you watch Mark McCandlish presentations. He was “suicided” on April 21, 2021. I was a friend of his. Marc McCandlish Best of luck

You could have simplified the design by removing the optical sensor and checking for a micro-spike in voltage on the coil (as a sign that the ball is in range) then quickly power it up to attract the ball and then quickly powered it down to let it continue. In this way it would work for the ball coming in either directions. Nice idea though.

I think it needs a capacitor, give each pulse a little more oomph and get that thing spinning around the table😉. It's halfway to being a toroidal coilgun anyways lol, at this point you might as well put a couple more stages with some electrolytic capacitors on it. Now that I think about it that would be a great way to fine tune the pulse timing and duration for a coilgun...

Who else has found for the first time that an electric motor is no different than the working principle of a piston engine? All electric motors are Alternating Current motors, without AC, the rotor is just going to get stuck in the magnetic field, so the commutator is the equivalent of the valves of a piston engine, more or less.

Could you build a track same design but utilize the tracks surface as part of the circuit and use multiple electromagnets in segaments around the track that get activated when the magnetic ball passes by and completed their individual circuit propelling the ball through angled electro magnets that look like arrows going in one direction around the circle with the leading end being closer together like I see people doing in other videos but it shuts off halfway through the magnetic fields perfectly timed and doesn’t get stuck and actually shoots off would you be able to build sustainable torque in a circular shape design with multiple magnets all turning on as the ball completes each individual circuit along the track as it passes by maybe with some sort of insulated strip of copper along the botttom for isolated contact but Anywyas do all that and get these balls flowing super fast and build up torque then use that torque to charge the battery that’s powering the electro magnets? Maybe my question is a bit convoluted, I apologize. but I feel like the amount of energy to power the magnets gets less as it gets faster but also turns on more times then it would if it was spinning slower but I’m wondering if short bursts with building torque can equal over unity if even slightly in that hypothetical configuration.

When we power the coil it creates an electromagnetic field and acts like a magnet. When we put a ball, it gains kinetic energy from the magnet. The ball will then exit the coil, but the magnet is still on, so it will get pulled back until it rests in the middle. That’s why we turn it off.

Good video! Is it possible to buy a switch wich is activated when the light is interrupted, like yours? I want to try it for myself

I'm not sure where to find them as packaged units, but it was very easy to build. I just used an LED and one of these photoresistors: www.amazon.com/MCIGICM-Photoresistor-Sensitive-Resistor-Dependent/dp/B07PF3CWW9/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=photoresistor&qid=1624025077&sr=8-3

@@HyperspacePirate Thank you, not very experienced with this, you attached it to the board where it lets electricity trough, I think you made it yourself right? Or is it possible to get that somewhere

@@thijsbeentjes3801 i soldered the parts to perfboard which is just a grid of holes with copper plating around them. I use this, but there's thousands of other options out there that work just as well: www.amazon.com/AiTrip-Perfboard-Breadboard-Prototyping-Electronic/dp/B07XYL451Y/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=perfboard&qid=1624026067&sr=8-3

OK, I've printed all 4 parts with the 4 coile option. How would I wire all 4 coils? I'm sure I can't just connect them all paralel ! Anyway, thanks again for the STL files!

The high sides are all connected to VCC (12V in my case) and the low side of each coil is connected to the drain pin of its own MOSFET (i use an IRLZ44 in this case, but there's lots of others that will work). Remember to connect a flyback diode across each coil with the cathode *FACING VCC*, or else the inductive spike from the coils will cause a voltage spike that will destroy the whole circuit

This would be impressive if it had NO POWER SOURCE , you literaly have a power source to turn on the coil.

Then how do u power the coil? Free energy doesn’t exist.
