And when i look from top down to the cube from where do i start counting column Nr 1 for instance ,from left to right,bottom or top,or from right to left bottom or top,and then come back to the next row to the left after counting 8 columns...how are the columns numbered?Best regards.

The datasheet for the 74HC595 indicates that the entire chip can only source 70ma. So 8x20mA/LED = 160mA which is more than double the chip allotment. It seems that you are overstressing the shift registers.

Hello, I finally managed to complete this project which was very time consuming but extremely enjoyable. After initial plugin I saw nothing but after head scratching I realised that I forgot to connect the transistors to ground. A silly mistake. When it finally worked I was extremely happy indeed and celebrated with a beer! In order to initialise the patterns I have to push the momentary switch/button is that correct, or should the patterns sequences change automatically without pushing the button? Please let me know? I would really like to say a big thank you for this tutorial it was cleverly put together and I would definitely recommend to anyone thinking of hand building this project. A great way to learn, especially soldering.

the LED lights are on, but I cannot change the patterns with the push button. I'm using Arduino MEGA2560 R3, is there any special push button? do you have any idea on how I can fix this problem? I will appreciate any help

I built it, but whenever an LED should light up, the entire column lights up e.g. only LED column 1, layer 1 should light up but instead the entire column lights up. This is the case for the entire cube. Does anybody know what might be the problem?

Hi,it's me again. In your schematics it shows ST_CP pin 12 are connected/linked together but I don't see these pins wired and connected in your video to pin 12, I do also notice that it looks like VCC (pin16) is connected in your video but not shown in the schematics. Am I missing something? Are there any mistakes? Your help would be much appreciated? I am really enjoying making this. Thanks again.

Can I use 100 ohms instead of 220? I bought 100 ohms by mistake and don't want to waste them. Do I need to add additional resistors (what value?) to the legs of each rows and layers to make it work? If so, what power supply should be used to make it work? Will 5v 2a still work?

Hey man, just got done building the cube it was an absolute blast. I do have a problem however, it seems like the top 7 layers don't light up as much as they should. Any idea why this is happening? The bottem layer does light up propperly.

Hello, It's me again. I have some questions about the current around the circuit. You said that you connected a 5V power supply with min 2a. And did you measure the current which is needed for a 64 LED, a couple of mA for each IC and arduino? I wonder how min 2a is calculated. And similar question, Is it enough for two transistors to divide collector current? I checked the data sheet of 2N2222A. There is a maximum collector current of 800mAdc. I'm sorry for bothering you.
