Computers equipped with ATI chips always end in the same way... taking a hot air bath for it to work a couple more months until it finishes its miserable life...
@ThisDaveAndThatJohn

There's only one correlation: weak cooling system or bad cooling design. Every chip will melt at high temperatures, the rest will be a question of time...
@joaopaulocoelho5401
@joaopaulocoelho5401 3 жыл бұрын
@@ThisDaveAndThatJohn I fully understand your point-of-view and I somewhat agree with it. However, I've had three computers with ATI video card chips in the past. All of them collapsed due to graphic issues... The last one, a Toshiba, had a graphic chip problem so I bought a second-hand motherboard. After one or two years of working, the same problem as the previous one. At that time I've been using some fancy, high thermal conductivity, thermopaste... Reflowing the chip was always a temporary fix. According to my personal experience, I will never buy another computer with ATI graphic chips. At the present, and for some years now, my current computer has a low-end Intel graphic chipset and I'm very happy with it... :D
@ThisDaveAndThatJohn
@ThisDaveAndThatJohn 3 жыл бұрын
@@joaopaulocoelho5401 Anyway, I don't see any correlation. There are many examples of graphics issues with playstation and nvidia dying alike and reballing doesn't help. If you live in a hot country and have bad designed cooling, the only way to avoid this issue is to force that little fan to spin so that the graphics chip stays at 50-55 degrees (or less if possible). Then, I don't understand why you are still talking about ATI if the ATI company does not exist and its graphic cards are really old and weak for using today.

You're the best computer repairman in the world! I have an HP doing the same thing, except I get a picture on the HDMI port. I hope it's the screen because I ordered a new one. Nice work but you can extend the life of this chip by adding a part of copper over it to help to dissipate the heat more quickly and effectively
@ntechlab8357
@ntechlab8357 3 жыл бұрын
nice video, but i think it would be better if you used a copper shim (and thermal paste) something between 0.3mm or 0.5mm, because the blue thermal pads that you use are not the same as the original pads they used, the blue ones are mainly used for vram chips or coils or mosfet nearby, maybe in rare cases on atom cpus, that have low heat generation, the original pads they used on those gpus were gray, they had better heat conductivity and crumbled when you pressed them, and as far as i know are not sold anywhere.

Clean the fan and add new thermal paste after this repair and the laptop will last much longer / also if possible place an o ring on the chip and fill with thermal paste then put heat sink on the more heat that can be removed from that chip the longer the laptop will last.

I have a similar laptop, a 9 year old Sony Vaio SVE series. This laptop easily holds 4K video at 60fps, but 4 months ago I ran into a graphics issue i.e. red lines and a lot of glitches. I solved it the same way: reflow. Now I control the GPU temp more strictly. I'm using Linux, so I wrote a shell script that forces the fan to cool everything down if the GPU hits 55 degrees Celsius. With the forced fan the temp drops to 45-48 degrees. I think I can get lower if I will put some Arctic MX-5. Everything works good. And yes, the problem appeared because some months ago I tried to play heavy games, so it was the "last straw" for my Sony Vaio. I think this kind of problem is a design problem. You put good chips and only one fan... A hopeless situation, every kind of chip will melt.
@Evhen_Velikiy

Actually this issue is a manufacturing fault. Chip just losing connection with its pad due to thermal cycling. If only there is a way to reball the chip itself... but nobody doing this as far as I know.

Hi everyone, I have an Acer Nitro 5 which shuts down when it is on stress CPU+GPU or using while the battery is not fully charged or just gaming, I've tried removing the battery and still not working, it is not getting hot because I have it with undervolt profile and changed thermal paste recently. Then, every time it shuts down I have to wait like 6 minutes until it wants to turn on like a old car. I suspect a power problem but I don't know where or how to start.
