I fixed it using the F2 and removing the battery. It's working now like magic. Have tried other solutions on the net but none worked like your. Have my keyboard back after three weeks. Thanks a lot my friend. It works. Actually I removed the battery and used for many weeks by directly plugging the supply without battery. And suddenly my keyboard didn't work. When I saw this video and boot my system with my battery, the keyboard start working. Eventhough the fix is very simple, your knowledge for the fix is great.

I got a problem like this after the last windows update, 1909 i think, the touchpad driver wasnt working properly anymore, i fixed that with the system restore thing :D Thanks for the video Sorin, keep up the good work

I have not been able to use my Toshiba Satellite keyboard or touchpad for a couple of years, just got by with external ones - tried lots of recommended "fixes" but not until I found your video did anything help! I found I had to unplug from AC power, remove battery for a minute or so, put back in and only then could I get into BIOS and restore default settings. Now everything works!

Thank you brother! Removing the battery worked on my acer laptop. Even setting the bios did not help! I updated keyboard and touchpad drivers, no luck. Restored windows 11 and restored it back to Windows 10 even that didn't work. But now both keyboard and touchpad working! Thank you!

you saved me from crying on the corner for 7 days straight

Testing with LinuxLive flash drive is always a great help. and this fault is usually because of windows not syncing USB port working frequency. You can reproduce this problem by just connecting and disconnecting a USB device too many times.

Man, I've tried drivers, safe mode, uninstalling things here and there, settings, bios update, cmos reset, cleaning the whole keyboard and after removing the battery then plug it back after a few minutes made everything work, thank you so much sorin. ❤

I was having same problem on HP Envy pavilion and I can't fix it even after losing out the back case to check if CMOS battery is attached to the board but none could be found.. Thankyou! cant believe it actually worked. The amount of drivers and settings and messing around I've done. When windows login screen came on it moved and worked, then when on dekstop on I realised i had to enable touchpad on (fn f5) again because of all the messing round previously haha. But it was there. Working. Brilliant thank you!

@electronics repair school: Hi, Some keys of my Lenovo X270 keyboard were not working so I've decided to replace it myself. I was very cautious and followed the service manual and best practices and could remove the faulty keyboard successfully. I plugged back all the ribbon cables and everything into its place. The issue is now the laptop turns ON (green light, the fan also turns, there is no beep unless I remove RAM memory) but the screen remains black. I've tried to connect it to an external monitor (and keyboard/mouse) but it didn't work. I've removed the CMOS battery for a while and put it back on but it didn't help. I have a big issue because when I wanted to connect the SSD drive to another laptop to access at least my data and back it up, it asks for BitLocker key which I never set (only had Windows session password) and I believe it is security/tamper protection from the old laptop. Could you please tell me what can be the issue? The GPU? Thanks a lot for your help.

You can try on screen keyboard,then you can do turn off and up,the mouse external for reparation test.

Neither touchpad nor keyboard work on my brother's old Gateway netbook since I put Linux on it. Came with Windows 7 Starter, and it was really slow. I've done everything you've mentioned here except for pulling the CMOS battery. I'll try that tomorrow. USB keyboard and mouse work.

This worked, craziest thing I have ever seen working on PC's but I took out the battery and put it back in and now keyboard and touchpad works now, I would have never believed this would work. I would love to know why the battery kept the keyboard from working.

Oh thanks, I had to restart property, I had to hold the start button for 5 seconds. Before I was doing it for 1 second and what I thought was a shut down was actually a sleep mode.

I just got my problem solution on your one word press the button for 5 second, before i was pressing may be less than 5 second that's why it was not being restarted.. after restarting it Begin working its touch pad and keyboard... Thanks for making us understand.. lot's of love from Pakistan

ihave a hp tablet/laptop combo,and have to type on touch screen as most my keys wont work on the keyboard. Because its a tablet i can take the 2 apart, can i buy just the keyborad part? And mine sometimes will only start in cmos?

Hello it really helped and i didnt know how to get my battery out so i just kept the laptop running for 30 min (i did that by pluging in a mouse) and restarted it and it worked
