A good quality hybrid bike makes a great ebike and the TongSheng mid-drive really gives a nice torque sensing ride experience. The power output, particularly from the throttle, isn't super strong but is a great way to ride farther and faster. With this setup I am getting over 100 mile of range cruising just under 15 mph, and over 60 miles averaging between 15 and 20 mph...amazing!

Myself and my partner have these drives fitted to our hybrid bikes. Previously 15 speed derailleur type bikes but now reduced to 5 speed with the replacement of the front 3-crank with the tongsheng kit. Absolutely agree that the brake lever motor cut-out connections are not needed. In fact we have had two instances of the motor intermittently cutting out that were traced to our poor adjustment of the brake sensors. Also agree that this kit does not turn your bicycle into an electric dirt bike. We live in a hilly area. Previously we would often dismount and push our bikes up the hills. Now we can ride up all the hills while remaining in the saddle. Power and range are obviously related. We find for our purposes that a single battery charge will last for a lot of trips. In our case this is weeks or months. We rarely use the throttle. The purpose of our trips is getting out into the countryside whilst getting some good exercise. This means we use the minimum assist level, using more only when necessary. Not aware of any motor overheating issues. We're very happy with our conversions.

Awesome thank you for sharing, as long as you have a few gears the torque sensor will do almost everything folks need and like you said does not turn this into a dirt bike. I like how this sensor keep exercise as part of your ride, it just allows you to control the intensity! I have found that the brake sensors on almost all of the conversion kits are a weak point. Keep on riding and thanks for sharing!

It’s always fun seeing videos of rides in my old stomping grounds. I moved from that area about 7 years back and miss the scenery and riding opportunities. I spent many years riding the American River Bike Trail but then switched to riding into the foothills through Newcastle, Penryn and Auburn prior to the move. Thx for the video as I am trying to decide on which motor to use as an assist on a Bacchetta Giro SWB recumbent.

The trail system is really my main reason for living here. How does the foothill trail system compare? I have a Bachetta Strada, on recumbents I tend to prefer a bafang mid-drives with a more lively throttle. I find the recumbent position not quite as ideal for this particular torque sensor, but that's just my $0.02. I appreciate the comment!

I put a Tongsheng motor on my Specialized Roll 5 years ago. I don’t have a throttle and never wanted one. I’ve been riding it to work 5 days a week all year in New England. It still works well. I’m thinking about buying another motor so that I can have two.

Thank you for sharing that, I am curious what assist level to you ride in most of the time? Some times of the year you can find some stellar deals on the TongSheng motors, good idea to have one on hand.

@@ElectronSurfer most of the time I have it Off or on 1 when riding. I have it on 3 when going up hills or when stopped at a traffic light. I am constantly changing the assist level. I also have an Enviolo CVT drive instead of gears.

Also, I don’t have and didn’t want that big display that you have. I have a tiny display and I change the assist level with a twist. I ride the bike all year, even when it’s below 20 degrees. I don’t ride in the rain though.

10:48 I heard a rumor that all Tongshen Mid-Drives use the same motor and all the different versions are just different software (firmware) configurations.
@ElectronSurfer
@ElectronSurfer 4 ай бұрын
I have not heard that rumor but I do not doubt that. The 750 watt is not significantly more powerful than the 500, based on my performance data, and if the actual motor components were different I would have expected more of a jump going up to 750. I'll be doing an upcoming video discussing just that fact so thanks for the reminder! Cheers

Put a smaller crankring on it and itll accelerate. Also your motor will last longer. These motors overheat at low revs, high load.

I thought about that but since I rarely ride throttle only I haven't had any issues. Plus where I live it's totally flat!

Does it need a chainring adapter? And what is the smallest chainring that fits? Thanks.
