Nice work as always. Reading your replies to others' comments, it seems you prepared samples elsewhere and imported them into the Digitakt II. Did you do any sampling directly into the machine? Overall, how do you like the workflow of focused production within Digitakt? How did it compare to your experience producing on the Push 3? I think a lot of us producers yearn for a simplified workflow of muscle-memory-driven focus within one powerful tool, leading us to DAWless, before eventually looping back for a hybrid setup. Seems like the Push 3 or Digitak II (with eventual Overbridge) could be a good central brain for such a hybrid setup. Wondering your take on how they'd compare for that kind of workflow (for ambient / idm genres).

Yes, I rarely use internal samples that come with samplers, I prefer to import my own stuff as soon as I get them otherwise I don't feel as if any track I make is really my own. Of course I'm okay with the drum samples, but I also used drum one-shots from my own favourite libraries and didn't even audition those within the DII (I'm sure they're fine). I didn't do any direct sampling with it yet, just imported a lot of prepared stuff (a LOT of ambient loops and big library of drums). Push 3 feels very different, to me Push 3 is a DAW controller, or even a Standalone DAW almost (in Standalone mode), and it still feels like composing inside a DAW. It's really nice but Standalone mode is frustrating due to limitations. I just uploaded a Techno track that I'll share here tomorrow, I had to make that mostly in the DAW and use the Push 3 only for performing it live as to me that seems the best use for it right now. Creating simple ambient stuff in Standalone mode is fun, but anything more complex and I get annoyed with it and just prefer to use Ableton directly, plus there I have access to excellent 3rd party plugins etc. The Digitakt II isn't like using a DAW at all, it's a very fun sampler and probably my favourite of all the Elektron boxes I've owned (I do really like samplers though), the sequencer is incredibly fun and versatile, especially now with 16 stereo tracks, much longer tracks and storage space and the best thing is I can stick it on my lap and use it for a long time without it getting uncomfortable. Once Overbridge is out for the DII I may even keep it permanently hooked to the DAW for a while, as it's a very capable rhythm and percussion machine that doesn't really have an equal in the DAW. But IMO both of these devices rely heavily on feeding them good quality prepared content to get the most out of them. So right now, DII is a fantastic standalone box of fun. Push 3 isn't there, and I just prefer to use it as a DAW controller and Standalone just sometimes..But this is just from my perspective and how I use these devices. Push can do a lot of other things Standalone which are cool, ie controlling MIDI instruments/CV to modular etc, sampling etc. Hopefully I'll find time to explore that stuff another time.

Regarding the Digitakt II, do you feel it's useful for longer ambient samples (pads, atmospherics, arps, etc) or is it more geared toward percussive tracks? I have the Analog Rytm so my drums are covered, and I'm wondering if the Digitakt II would be a useful addition or repetitive in functionality.

@@jediahsol It can work well with long samples too. The ambient bed loop that you hear on the beginning of this is a long 2min+ loop, set to Trig - First, which means the trigger that I used to start it never re-triggers and the loop plays endlessly. So you could for instance perform longform ambient this way, even an entire set utilising several long samples like this and slowly mixing them in/out. It's also quite capable of some generative stuff. it probably is geared more toward percussion and sequencing though, and that's probably how I'll mostly use it, with my Syntakt doing the musical stuff. I have a Torso S-4 coming which i think will probably be better suited to ambient sampling/performing. But I do think the DII is very flexible. I might do a pure ambient track on the next video.

There's a difference between using percussion to create atmosphere, and having a traditional drum beat. Plenty of great ambient that uses percussion, have you seriously never heard any Tetsu Inoue?
