In this episode of Elements of Japan, we travel to Shizuoka, a prefecture about 90 minutes southwest of Tokyo. You'll see the mountainous tea fields of the prefecture and learn from the growers about how the drink gets from the field to your glass. You'll see the birthplace of wasabi farming, learn how the plant is produced and processed, and hear directly from wasabi growers about how it's actually supposed to taste. You'll also learn about Shizuoka's connection with Tokugawa Ieyasu (one of Japan's most prominent historical figures) and his perhaps unlikely connection to the world of modern plastic model making.
We hope you explore this Japan travel experience and learn something new about Japanese culture. Presented in Japanese Language with English narration.

So many things in this world marketed in mass to the public give up character of the original to satisfy packaging/storage/profitability. BTW, I could listen to the presenter of this video just read a phone book all day:)

This was such a well done episode! I just started learning the language a few months ago, and that's one of the things that led me to this channel. I started watching the IWATE episode, can't wait to finish. I can't wait to see more episodes, hope there are more to come. I continue to fall more in love with this country and its culture.

I really enjoyed the video, but struggled to read the subtitles in a several parts - small and hard to see on light backgrounds.

👋 hi, I follow your Instagram page and learned a lot English and Japanese culture that I didn't know. I lived for 14 years in shizuoka prefecture hamamatsu city, and have a couple of Americans teachers and friends, they had been at this shizuoka tea route once. In my opinion shizuoka is the best place to live in Japan. I just started to follow your new channel. Thanks for share your experiences and knowledge.
