Elena's 2010 form was pretty poor, but she played decently enough here. She looked visibly tired at times and most of the third set she was so angry with herself and clearly tight, especially at the end. Sad to watch knowing she was at the end of her career and wasn't enjoying herself as much anymore.
First set is missing first game and there was a broadcast issue at the end of the 4-1 game, so no footage there. If stats are correct, Elena hit 20 winners in the first set and we see 17 to my count. We see 39 winners from Elena in the entire match, so about 42 overall - not bad.

I remember this one! I think she had her comeback from the RG withdrawal a couple weeks before in Stanford, and I thought she was hitting pretty well there. Her game in general just looked quite rigid in 2010 - it was noticeable against Henin that she was playing as more of a consistent grinder, and then her service motion changed through the season and it just became less enjoyable to watch her, because she was a lot less dynamic and you could tell she wasn’t enjoying her tennis as much either. This is definitely one of the better matches for her season, I think.

These two always had close encounters (apart from their 2007 meeting on grass where Marion won 6-1 6-0). Dementieva did well to win with that serve.

Elena's 2010 is indeed mostly sad and difficult to watch. She just looked flat all-round and that godawful service motion she adopted only added to the feeling that she was in decline.

It was good Elena played this tournament. After her injury in Paris her results weren't good. Luckily the 2nd round against K. Bondarenko wasn't broadcast, that was probably a mess. In the end, her head still wasn't ready to beat Wozniacki and later Stosur in New York :( Her game became better again, but mentally she was still not the best.
