I can answer Stefan 1.He would choose Damon over anyone. This become clear in later seasons. 2.He did loved Katherine but not anymore.He was attracted to Elena because she looked like Katherine but he love Elena not Katherine. 3. I think Stefan was happy because she made Damon become a better person but he would think falling in love with Damon was wrong because they were in loved once and he loved her too not because he think Damon don't deserve her.

Perfectly stated! Point #3 though!!! I never liked Damon for this very reason and more. He NEVER had any respect for Elena n Stefan’s relationship and would boldly make advances at her and Stefan definitely should’ve dealt with him accordingly. It wasn’t until they slept together that I think Stefan fought with him. Damon always proudly said how selfish he was and his desires always came before others no matter who got hurt. Exactly, the Salvatores were bad for her. Klaus said it best "The worst thing for Elena Gilbert is the two of you." Damon killed Elena's brother and abused her best friend. Stefan stalked her for months, abandoned her and then tried to kill her. Neither of them deserved her and the only person who understood Elena wanting to lead a normal life was Rebekah.

See this is the kind of thought that makes life difficult for you lot in this world. The nice guys always wins because wherever he goes on from the situation, job or the person he lost he will be loved cherished and admired elswhere for his nature experiencing newer and better things leaving the bad guy to be exposed to his real nature because the cover the nice guy gave him in that situation has been removed. For example in a job where you're the nice guy and cover for the bad guy who(steals money, doesn't show up for work, neglect his duties) the very instant you leave the traces of his bad actions are exposed it is the same in a relationship even if it is two people in the relationship(one good the other bad) or you're competing to be with someone. Think about it in school the cool kids make themselves appeal to everyone than the good kids right, in the end it will be this cool kids that will work for minimum wage from the good kids. The nice guy always wins, the bad guy is exposed

Should watch the rest of the series and you will see that Stefan be as much of a monster as Damon, worse in a lot parts of the series

They fought so much later in the series because underneath all the sexual tension, fundamentally they were morally different. Damon is selfish. Let’s not forget Damon raped and fed on Caroline in the first season. She was under compulsion so there’s no way of saying it was consensual. He also snapped Jeremys neck without seeing the protection ring he had. And Jeremys death later on is the sole reason she had to turn it off. His death destroyed her. How is any of that forgivable? And then Damon, who LOVES his brother, moves in on his girlfriend. I get you can’t help who you fall for.. but he did not respect their relationship. Stefan is no saint either but he worked for decades on fixing himself. He got caught up in the ripper era and Lexi showed him theres a better way. Thats all he was doing for Elena when she turned. Instead of letting her go off the rails and losing her humanity, let’s start off doing good. At the time, vampirism was permanent. So he just tried to prevent Elena from killing anyone because it absolutely wrecked her, even when the hunter died. Steroline felt forced to me, like just something to be explored because there wasn’t any options left. Caroline should’ve been with Tyler or Klaus. She truly loved Tyler and she was with him during some dark times, especially during his early wolf days. I could go on forever 😂

I don’t want to be right or excuse Stefan’s bad deeds but having read the volumes of the literary saga The Stefan Journal by LJ Smith and after having reviewed the series in its entirety from a different angle, I was able to understand his character well, how he works, understand where his goodness is, what his limits are etc… Stefan is someone who is torn between his good and bad side. He is somewhat imprisoned by his bad side that calls him. One could say that he is a bit of a martyr, he does not even accept himself as a vampire. He has a humanity that brings out guilt, compassion and regret in him. He manages to bury in him his bad side that sleeps deep within him, a side that made him a sadistic person who liked to remember his murders. Yes, Stefan was far from being a one-note character, and his dark side resurfaced several times but unlike Damon, he had remorse when he committed atrocious acts because guilt gnawed at him with the humanity that remained in him. There were similarities between Stefan and Damon, but the former always wanted to do the right thing. To compensate for his Ripper cravings, he strove to be better, selfless, friendly and merciful whenever he could. Unlike Damon, Stefan feels guilty about the murder of each of his victims and quickly makes himself sick. He was helped by Lexi, a vampire he meets and learns from her to control his thirst for blood, and to feed on animals instead of humans. He has embarked on a sort of abstinence from human blood for centuries thanks to Lexi, Damon has never tried to abstain from human blood but Stefan has and he deserves a lot of credit for the incredible restraint he showed for many years of his immortal life. Even though he was an incredibly imperfect individual and trapped in many ways by his vampirism and blood addiction, unlike many other vampires and supernatural beings, he always tried to be better than he was. However, that does not mean that he always succeeded. In many cases, Stefan proved to be a hero. But, often, he proved to be more of a villain than a hero. We only focus on Stefan’s Ripper side and tend to forget that Damon did some beautiful horrors during the 8 seasons of the series and even before without being a Ripper and unlike Stefan, after committing horrible acts, he continued his life without regretting most of the time. And even if Damon had differences with Stefan, he said that his brother was a hero especially because of his haircut! It’s a running joke between the two Salvatore brothers that comes up several times during the series and that all true fans know, of course!
