Elephants are literally the only animal in Africa that Hippos don’t dare to fight and always step down once an elephant gets too close.

Ahhh this made me smile & chuckle. Both majestic lavishly creatures in the same waters just lovely. Even though the hippos weren't happy 😁

I dislike when people want to pit two beasts together for the purpose of seeing who will defeat who, but these two together have always been a question and the situation doesn't seem arranged. That last line was quite the teaser .....

The comment in the video about the hippos having the upper hand seems to be saying that hippos can handle deeper water than elephants. This would only make sense if hippos could float and swim. Hippos are dense and sink. They move by walking along the bottom. They can only reach the water surface as far as standing up on their hind legs will get them. I don't know how that height compares to an elephant standing on all fours but they can also use their trunk as a snorkel. Seems more likely they got out because they realized the hippos were angry. Maybe got a nip or rammed into underwater, unseen by the cameras.
