Today we are back with exclusive follow up treatment to a giant elephant who was suffering with a painful abscess and swollen leg, after being shot by an evil poacher. If you are a constant visitor to our channel you may remember this elephant who was treated in the forest border with pus oozing abscess in the right front leg which was swollen badly. If you have missed that video, Please find the link of the first part of treatment that is pinned as the 1st comment.
This the second day of treatment to this beautiful elephant. In the first day of treatment his abscess was drained, thoroughly cleaned and it was packed with medicines too. But the wildlife officers are searching him again for a follow up treatment, because they are highly concern about avoiding further infections to the elephant and they committed to look after the elephant until he get a complete recovery.
They could locate the elephant near a landfill in the village. According to a forest range officer, it was observed that after the first day of treatment, the elephant did not move into the deep areas of the forest. Instead, it remained near the forest border. It seemed as though the elephant realized that only these compassionate humans could help him heal his injury and save his life.
Without wasting anytime, they darted the elephant with tranquilizer gun that is loaded with anesthetic drug. The elephant didn’t show any aggression, as if he was waiting for their assistance. The officers patiently wait till the elephant is completely immobilized.
The elephant has knelt down on his front leg under sedation. The officers approach the elephant to start the treatment. The officers were so happy to see elephant has quite recovered and swelling in the right front leg has reduced significantly.
The veterinarian decided to start the treatment with injectable. They are going to re administer antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medicines. Because it is important to eliminate the infections through the wound. Otherwise it can spread in to the inner body organs too.
All these medicines are made on the spot, by these vets, according to an elephant body weight formula. These medicines will fight infection, boost immunity and reduce pain and thereby energize the animal in a short period of time.

It is suspected that this injury was inflicted by a gunshot, possibly out of revenge. We cannot be certain, but it may have been the bullet of an angry farmer that struck his leg. Perhaps this elephant had caused damage to the farmer's crops. These innocent animals have to suffer due to the humane elephant conflict. This elephant was fortunate to encounter compassionate humans who were willing and capable of aiding in its recovery. Otherwise, its life may have silently ended in the forest.
Wildlife officers offer great support to save the lives of wild animals. But their life is challenging as they spend most of their time working outdoors in all kind of weather, risking their lives by dealing with untamed wild animals. While working with limited resources and facilities, they do their utmost to protect the wildlife.
Here you can see a closer look of the injured leg with abscess. The swelling has reduced drastically after the first day of treatment. You may remember how the veterinarian thoroughly drained the pus from the abscess and applied medicines on the wound. Their effort has paid off. The abscess has subsided significantly and wound is quite healed. You may witness a marked improvement in his condition compared to the previous video.
Now, they are preparing to clean and medicate the abscess for the second time. Using forceps and cotton swabs, the veterinarian commenced the cleansing process once more. He carefully removed any remaining necrotic tissue and cleaned the wound pocket thoroughly.Povidone iodine and negasant powder mixture was stuffed in to the wound pocket.
The elephant started swaying its body from side to side, showing signs of unconsciousness, hinting at the risk of collapsing to the ground. Such an incident could potentially lead to internal organ damage in the elephant. Hence, the veterinarian promptly administered a revival drug through the ear vein. All necessary treatments were provided to the elephant, and considering the present improvement in its health condition, there is no doubt about its recovery.
