Pure Genius. I am a Sophomore Business/Entrepreneurship major in college and professors are literally teaching the same marketing techniques as they were 10 years ago. So thankful for successful marketing professionals like yourself who are willing to freely share what has and has not worked for you. I follow your content religiously. Thanks for everything! Cheers.

"You've got to build a brand, otherwise its a tactic." - GV is all I wrote after I copied the embed code & put it on my new mobile blog. Especially after focusing on advanced hypnotic storytelling/email marketing training/conversion stuff the past year...this was such a grounding 'heart-check' of a quote. Love ya man!

I'm not going to lie. As much stuff as I've seen of yours, it does not get old. You always give me something to think about and I've used many of your principles with regards to my business, social media, and how I should approach it. I've said it before and I'll say it again, you are an incredible source of inspiration for those who are aspiring towards better. Look forward to your book and more videos in the immediate and near future. Thank you again.

You say things I don't know how to say. You embody and express the trapped spirit of visionaries like me, stuck in low-level management positions, looking for the right outlet. You blow my mind. I'll meet you one day and tell you what your words mean to me, what a difference they make and how they prod and stir people with misunderstood value.

Gary, you know I support you bro and look to you as a role model. It was really great to hear what you are saying about what is going on NOW. You have been saying for some time now that banner ads and certain other ads are dying out. Do you think there will ever be cell phone ads that randomly pop up? I am starting to see it on TV, rare, but I do see it. Thanks again for sharing man. Great talk!

Recently I've started to see to ads after clicking on links on twitter (primarily news sites). You are supposed to digest the ad before closing it to read the web post. Guess what I do? Like you, I close that shit because that link, that knowledge, that post has just wasted my time and isn't worth anything because of that ad and it won't get read, digested or be allowed to influence. You nailed this talk Gary. This is my second time watching it in 5 days and I really think it's one of your best.

I think the thing people are missing is that our attention is diffused by the wide array of options at our disposal. What Gary seems to be hitting on is that you have the power to bring that focus back on you and your message but you need to cultivate your tools before it is obvious what you need to win the attention battle. If you wait for the audiences to clearly arrive, it will be too late to hone your craft to capture them before they move on again.

Great advice, I love your passion. The observations that you spoke about really hit me. My wife and I will be either on her iPhone, iPad, Macbook Air while watching TV, and by watching TV I mean something that we downloaded without Ads. It's given food for thought regarding SnapChat, which I don't really use at the moment, but will look into because its another way to add value.

A lot of what you were speaking about, I think most folks already know but just don't realize it. For instance, its funny to hear you talk about banner ads and billboard advertisements and how they go unnoticed, which is absolutely true. In fact, they are so irrelevant nowadays, that until you mentioned it, I hadn't even realized that, YES, I don't notice these antiquated forms of marketing? Sometimes we just need to hear it over and over again for things to sink in, sadly. Great video!

What's awesome is that you practice what you preach. Look at the comments on this video that you replied to. Question: Wouldn't that really take up your time? I know companies hire social media managers to do that, but that just takes the personal out of it. How do you juggle, when responding becomes part of work, a huge part.

Hello Dom, TV ads may still be alive in London but in most big market areas of the US it is dead. TV ads are likely reaching people that are broke anyway. Hit their phone for to deliver value=+EV. It's the future. It's been happening in the US for years now.

Gary, Incredible insights, but I want to push back a little bit. I'm curious what your take is on Apple's launch of the iPad. Many would argue that its TV ad was a critical call to action for the consumer to buy the iPad despite very negative critic sentiment (KZfaq: "What is iPad?", see Isaacson's book). Yes, that was 2010. So, if Apple were to launch a product today with similar critic sentiment, what should it do to see similar success if you say it should not use a commercial?

I'm always saying we let our Marketing hats for too long and never put the Consumer hat. This applies especially in the digital CTAs on offline advertising - sometimes we place it so small or so confusing that we don't stop for a second as a consumer and think "If it's not important for the brand, why is it important for me?"

I think it will be a lot sooner than 2020. Granted, the political scene can be slow to adopt new technologies. And campaigns are behaving exactly the way you're referencing by treating social media as a push-only channel. However, I think we're going to see some fundamental changes in strategy as early as next year. By 2020, I don't think a candidate will be able to get elected without a solid social media engagement strategy that treats voters like real people. The game is changing.
