Neat trick for cutting the metal parts holding dies together. My method is just to hold the dies & my wire cutter into a trash can. That way, the metal bits go directly into the trash. Yes, you can protect your eyes with safety goggles, but if one of those pieces gets on the floor & then into your (or someone else's) foot - ouch! Your way is good, too, of course, & one I've never seen. :) I do the same sort of thing with putting the tape around the point when I have to throw away nails, screws, pins, etc., so they don't poke through the trash bag & maybe come out entirely.
