Not really, it was implied he was evil, it turned out he had the motivation to avenge his family by killing Klaus. Elijah will always be morally flexible when it comes to his family. Then out turned out Klaus never actually liked his siblings so he changed his mind.

In TVD Elijah hated Klaus, hated him, hated him to the point where he plotted to kill him, after Esther came back he still kept his distance from Klaus, and in episode 1 of TO he's suddenly so interested in helping him? It took Klaus a long time to fully change, like 3 seasons for him to change for the better.

I loved the TVD Elijah when he was sadistic, calculating, stoic and presice. The one with an honor code and principles that set him apart from his more chaotic siblings. The one who led deliberately and acted like the father figure of his entire family not just Klaus. The one who reminded me of the old vampires of the Ann Rice classics like Lestat. He came out from time to time in TO but those scenes were too overwhelmed by the breaking down of the character. Perhaps they were trying to make him more complex but I just think they took it a step too far and by the end of it he was completely lost, not a shred of classic Elijah left. Still my favorite in the series.

At some point while watched TVD I really wish that Elijha should kill Klaus and prevent Klaus from breaking his curse...... After watching The Originals I realize how much wrong I was.... Elijah will never kill Klaus, nor will Klaus ever kill any of his family members...... That the last thing they will do....
