I put together a 22lr upper with CMMG parts from Right to Bear and it worked great 99% of the time but once every hundred rounds or so I would pull the trigger and get an inexplicable light strike! When I pulled the bolt back on these light strikes I was surprised to see the cartridge would stay in the chamber as if the extractor wasn't properly engaged with it. The rim still had a good dent in it so I didn't think there was a problem with the hammer or firing pin. Seeing this video helped me piece two and two together and I believe the problem was caused by the bolt bounce leading to the bolt and extractor not fully engaging with the cartridge in the chamber, will be installing a weight and buffer to see if that solves the issue

Excellent information! I'll be purchasing the adjustable weight as well as the device that fits in the buffer tube. I just purchased one of the CMMG conversions, but I haven't fired it as of yet. I want to occasionally use it in my select-fire Colt 614, and bolt bounce is something you definitely don't want in full auto.

the adjustable sear trip was an instant purchase after a per manufacturer instructions that void your warranty failed attempt to adjust timing LoL.

Well I've never shot an AR22 so don't know how much of a real issue bolt bounce is in regards to extractor wear and such. But is pretty obvious that the Bolt Buddy does as advertised. I have to think that it could also help with accuracy as well by making the chambering process more uniform without all the repeated impacts of bolt on case rim. I will recommend it to my customers who shoot AR22s in hopes of seeing one in action and helping them with a more accurate gun.

Picked up a CMMG converted Lantac last week, it was S/H with only 2K round through it and the original extractor was chipped to hell. Really glad i've seen this video, ordered the Gen 3 weight kit, reliability kit and hardened extractor. When they all get here I will get the GoPro out and slowmo record the bolt in the same fashion to tune it perfectly.

just an idea, but maybe add cuts to the side so the forward assist could be functional. Since i can tell that to install this, one would have to remove their forward assist adapter.

Bolts don’t lock up in a .22LR. But this is an improvement.

I take it this is for a single purpose AR22 and not a CMMG adapted AR15. With the amount of bounce back, rapid fire would not be possible without jams. I got 300+ rounds through mine so far in an AR556, and only once did it jam, and that was because of a bad cased 22 that I didn't catch.

I tried my cmmg 22 kit on my Anderson-del ton today..it fired right up.. accurate too..i noticed a bolt bounce right from jump..im sure cmmg knows this is happening.. everything is dependent on bolt spring. To take different kinds of loads and velocity..its a balance they had to engineer..i have no idea what weight system id even try..todays break in i had 3 light strikes out of 50 rds..breaking in..idk..be safe..

I ordered the Gen 3 adjustable weight kit yesterday, because I'm not a fan of bolt bounce. Will the cyclic rate be reduced a noticeable amount in the H3 configuration? I enjoy binary trigger mag dumps and I'd like to be able to maintain that ridiculous cadence on occasion, if possible. If not, oh well.

Great video. Like shooting.22 caliber and I as well have the Rare Breed Trigger mentioned. I have a few questions if someone cares to answer their own opinions. What dedicated upper is the best quality upper should I want to buy one? And second, which.22 drop in adapter is the best quality and reliability for 2022? And yes I have some of the older drop ins like the Atchison and Ciener models. Have never shot with them but am planning on buying the CMMG model. Any preferred and do they all have last shot hold back? I have Colt AR15 20", 16", and 14 1/2" models. Also have dedicated.22 AR15 style rifles. All these have not been out for awhile so I forget what type of build they are as to gas/piston (AR15), as well as model. I just like.22 caliber. Cheap fun shooting especially auto mode Colt M16 A1. All you Rare Breed FR-15 trigger owners? How does this trigger work with drop in CMMG?

Ok but why so expensive. The whole .22 upper is $200 this is half the price of the entire upper. Isn't it cheaper to just replace the bolt carrier instead?

This works grate with none suppressed guns . With a suppressor the trigger does all kinds of weird things .

You might be able to reduce bolt bounce if you add cmmgs 22lr forward assist adapter.

I think just a stronger spring would work instead of paying like a 100bucks. Seems it doesnt have enough resistance when going back and the spring seems weak allowing it to bounce so easily.

Your presentation showed the dedicated .22LR conversion. Does the adjustable bolt weight work the same way on the non dedicated CMMG bravo conversion kit as well? It would be awesome if you could do a video on that test as well. (For those that don't know, the dedicated conversion includes an adapter for the bore were as the non dedicated version has that adapter attached to the bcg.) Just bought the Tippmann Arms M4-22 ELITE which is designed by Tippmann. I don't know if this kit works with their bolt , but I found a video titled MY GUN DAIRY. In that video I can see the bolt bouncing ( without slow mo) I did message BOLT BUDDY TECH SUPPORT,. To ask if this works with their system ? Always learning .

Is it possible if the bolt bounce is high enough it could cause double feeds? or, maybe it moves back far enough to catch the lip (where the bullet meets the casing) of the round below in the mag and partially strips it out causing a failure to go into battery?

I installed a foldable but stock on to my ar which allows me to carry it in my Adidas football bag. Will this conversion kit work with my weapon or do I have to take off the foldable but stock?

By the time one buys a conversion kit, then buys all the items to make the conversion kit reliable one may as well just buy a dedicated 22lr. CMMG and all the other 22lr bolt makers should have got this right the first time. A dedicated 22 would be much more accurate too. Thanks for the video.

Would this be necessary and/or does a similar product exist for the Bear creek 22 Mag upper?

I just received my kit today and the bolt weight rattles around VERY loudly inside the upper even though its installed properly. Not sure i want to fire too many rounds with it this way as im concerned about causing wear damage to the upper. Any ideas or help?

So if it wasn’t a cmmg bcg would this still happen? So using and actual .22 bcg with a dedicated upper would eliminate this all together?

The M&P-15-22 are known to fire out of battery. Smith doesn't seem to care. Could this bounce back be the problem ?
