Very true. The Keiser wanted to marry her but she chose a Russian grand duke who btw was gay or bi (not that there’s anything wrong about), but just saying.

Does anyone know why all princesses from abroad becoming Russian took the second name "Fjodorowna"? It should mean the daughter of Fjodor but who is Fjodor? Фёдоровна in Russian...does it mean "from abroad" or something similar?

After the conversion to the Russian Orthodox Church, the princesses received Russian names. For example, Dagmar of Denmark (mother of Tsar Nicholas II), was named Marie Fyodorovna. Marie von Hessen und bei Rhein became Czarina Maria Alexandrovna, and so on.

@@ger2248 I know! This was not my question! My question was why they got the second name "Fjodorowna" and what Fjodorowna stands for! Every russian woman has a name and a second name, Olga Nicolajewna e.g. which means the girl is Olga and the daughter of Nicolaj. But why was Dagmar called Maria FJODOROWNA?? Does FJODOR mean "Foreign"? or what?

Explanation from the Skit der hl. Großfürstin Elisabeth in Buchendorf, Germany: the dynasty of the Romanov family very much revered the Mother of God icon Fyodorovskaya. She is one of the sanctuaries of the Romanov family and patron of the family since the founding of the dynasty in 1613. The "additional name" is thus to be understood as the patron saintly name. That is why all princesses who are married from abroad wear this patronymic.

@josefina bananosi had read somewhere in the comment that alexandras mother, sister, and brother were killed. alexandra was the online one alive. amd under the custody of queen victoria her grandmother.

Die hätten alle mal mindestens 1 Jahr lang in einer Schraubenfabrik in einem 10 Stundentag mit Minimalpause und das 6 Tage in der Woche für einen Hungerlohn malochen sollen, wie ihre nichtadligen Zeitgenossen... ansonsten sind die Bilder gut.

Großfürstin Elisabeth verkaufte und verschenkte nach dem Tod ihres Mannes (Bombenattentat eines Anarchisten) ihren gesamten Besitz und gründete in Moskau ein von ihr geführtes Kloster. Hier unterhielt sie ein Waisenhaus, kümmerte sich um die Ärmsten in den Arbeitervierteln und Slums und pflegte Kranke, immer ansteckenden Krankheiten ausgesetzt. Im 1.Weltkrieg pflegte sie zusätzlich grässlich verwundete und verstümmelte Soldaten und spendete Sterbenden Trost. Sie war unermüdlich, hatte einen Arbeitstag von 20 Stunden, 7 Tage die Woche und ruhte nur für wenige Stunden. Zum Dank für ihren Einsatz und weil sie als Deutsche, durch Heirat, den Namen Romanow trug, wurde sie von bolschewistischen Dreckproleten brutal ermordet. Man stieß sie (und andere Romanows) lebend in einen verlassenen Minenschacht, in dem sie, tödlich verletzt, nach drei Tagen elendig verstarb.
