Failing Given quite how unpopular "always online" is, and how you can get scripts to make the game think it's online when it's not (coincidentally ofren included with pirate downloads), putting it in as an "anti piracy" measure makes no sense. It's in there because they wanted to synchronise the market data of both single- and multi-player games, so you can hop between them without a) having to have 2 seperate accounts and grind for that Anaconda in both of them or b) suddenly finding that a highly valuable commodity in your game is worthless online and you've lost all your money.
@Swidhelm
@Swidhelm 9 жыл бұрын
It's anti-piracy, and it's due to their developing story, and to keep the story consistent, rather than having to develop scripted stories for offline stuff. That was more or less how they described it.

Take my advice and don't play this game at night. You will horribly regret it at around an hour before sunrise the game goes: "Oh you gotta go to bed, do you? Well, that's a shame... I mean there is this 1-hour deadline smuggling mission with a reward of a million credits which will be gone by tomorrow, but a man DOES need his sleep riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight?" I remember watching this video mid 2015, and then bought the game a few months later when it was on sale and I remembered Yahtzee liked it. Over 1000 hours later and I'm still going strong. Glory to the Empire.

Well, I bought the game with the Horizons expansion with the intent to get the biggest Empire ship that had so many turret slots, all I hade to do was warp to a mining place, find a guy with a bounty, and say, "ATTACK". But then my computer decided that it didn't like Elite: Dangerous and had a hissy-fit, so, i'm crying myself to sleep with only a few days on my record until I get a new computer. I then found this, wich just renews my want for Elite: Dangerous, knowing I am just like Yahtzee with the weird feeling of liking wasting days of my life twiddling my joystick and listening to podcast. Whew, finally got that off my chest.

The vibe he describes with Elite is a lot like how a lot of MMO players feel. Outside of the current content (raids, what-have-you) there's just something oddly pleasing about leveling at a lazy pace, taking on repetitive content you've handled before with very little drive. I've probably leveled more WoW characters than I'd ever have a reason to need, but there's nothing quite so oddly comforting on a day when I'm off and my wife's working like putting on a podcast and just mindlessly going at it. It's probably some kind of human hardwiring: the satisfaction of completing a task with virtually none of the agitation of challenge.

Of course; the brain is a lazy sunnuva and make you feel good when you stay in your comfort zone (doing repetitive-now-familiar tasks at a comfortable pace, like you mentioned and most of gamers have experienced at least once in our lives). That's why we, as individuals inside a democracy hanging on social media and instant dopamine, or online gamer community paying automatically for the next "More of the Same: Power Fantasy Warfare", (or "That Sports Game Who Is Becoming Gradually Boring In Real Life 2018", or "Pay USD60 Because Nostalgia") are so doomed. The challenge is more rewarding, though, we all know that. But that bastard brain needs some painful grinding until it concedes willpower. We can talk about that. But try to explain that to a millennial without taking the smartphone off his/her hands.

Silverizael That's quite a generalisation make to make also it shows a "you're either with us or against us" attitude which did not work when bush tried it. All that kind of thinking accomplishes it alienating possible friends or allies as it gives the impression of a uncompromising, inflexible environment/group. my knowledge on the men's right's movement and MGTOW it limited but before I personally would label them as anti-woman I would first ask what harm are they to women/women's right's. This is not me disagreeing or agreeing with you, like I said my knowledge is limited but I don't usually pick sides in social/political debates.

RDDlegacy The kind of gamers that are a part of Gamergate are like that. Sure, there's probably plenty of people that disagree with Sarkeesian and then went on their merry way. But anyone who dislikes her enough to post a negative comment about her in this video from half a life in it is somewhat obsessed with disliking her, wouldn't you say?

n your point about illegal goods for a mission, you can determine mission type by mission logo. If it has a skull on it, or multiple canisters, it is a smuggling mission. It states in the description that the goods are stolen or lists if your current or destination station finds these items illegal, and lists the fine for them. Two ways to avoid the fine scan: Hitting "Delete" will close your shields and heat vents and eliminate your heat signature for a time, makingyou almost impossible to spot, and thus, scan. Alternately, purchasing Heat Sink launchers finds you with the same general effect, but for a lesser time and requiring a token fee to restock your limited supply of heat sink pucks. However, on its own it is more 'safe' than Silent Running- you can keep shields enabled if you need to duck into the mailslot if you do get scanned, and take a bump. The two synergize well, though, and you can use Heat Sink launchers to stall the overheating taken in Silent Running if it gets too close to 100%. 17cr to save a possible 50k fine? Profit, baby. Pure profit.

I don't understand why games like Elite are regarded as "wierd". In the past we had many games like these and they were fun and entertaining. Now everybody komplains how games are now too easy, but when a simulator comes into the play everyone says it is "wierd" or "not a game for everyone". It is not my fault people are too lazy to even have a hobby inside a hobby. I like to play video games and I like WW2 fighter planes. So I play games about WW2 fighter planes, and I am so hardcore to actually get a sim and I have absolutely NO FUN within those easy games. I like to have over 9000 bindings and know how to operate a P-51D and make an impact on every little detail with clickable cockpit. Why now everthing must look like Assasins Creed or Dota.

Indeed. And we're all still waiting for XWing (any version) to finally appear on Steam for similar reasons. Half the fun was mastering the damned complicated shield/blaster/targeting systems. But with LucasArts the way it is now, who knows if we'll ever see its return.

I wouldn't call them weird, but they're definitely not games for everyone. Good simulators tend to have really steep learning curves so that puts off a large portion of people who play games already. Aside from that, simulators, even if they're fantastically made, won't appeal to people who don't have an interest in whatever the simulation is, whether it be space, driving, economics, or war. As a result, simulators are an incredibly niche genre of games that can only appeal to people who have an interest in the subject AND the patience and dedication to learning the game.

James Oldfield That is not the point. People say "its wierd" just because it doesn't look like another battlefield game. Listen! Simulators and mostly aircraft/spacecraft simulators were a big thing in old days. By that I mean up to early 2000s. Now they are regarded as "wierd". The wierd part is that for many at that time games were for kids and they were actually way more complex in many instances. There always been place for Mario and for Jane's attack squadron and Wolfenstein. Back then every game was wierd for most people. Now we have games that developed past the "its for kids" stage and they are progressively easier and now games that were a challange become "wierd". That is the problem.
@Noobshire
@Noobshire 9 жыл бұрын
Indeed, up until around the early 2000s, we had quite a lot of innovative games, what with HL, SiN, Omicron Soul, DN3d, System Shock 2, etc. And yes, the market is becoming more stale in the race to the lowest common denominator and monetisation in-game. Again, not particularly your points, but pertinent to the general conversation.

i spent my spacebux wisely and got myself a cobra and converted to a full time trader. It's always good to hang around nav-beacon by the nearest star and pick up bounties when you start so you can git gud, but once thats over start moving shit, its much more profitable, and the only time you're going to find the motherload of bounties (which is usually a 1 million bounty sitting in an anaconda) you're not going to get shit from them cause they managed to survive with a ONE MILLION SPACEBUX bounty, and they know how to fuck a bitch up and then run away.
@PatrickRatman
@PatrickRatman 8 жыл бұрын
GiRayne I've personally never went without shields. even if you put it on a lower internal slot, having a shield always seems useful to me, and the cobra mk III has decent storage with shields. it can get annoying when you get constantly chain interdicted by pirates, so being at least partially combat fitted saved my ass plenty of times. its important to note that the cobra mk III is a multirole ship, so if you think you can escape without shields, then go for it. (if you jump into high wake you can't be mass locked by larger ships) also if you want to do any form of profitable mining i recommend going on google and searching for pristine reserve belts. i also never liked mining without limpets, their just too convenient. Though once i got enough money to get a maxed FSD for the cobra, i switched directly to smuggling long distance robigo slaves. they nerfed the shit out of doing that, but its still doable. robigo smuggling is probably the most profitable type of trading early in the game, and can net you millions per delivery. But for now, what you can do is stack up deliveries. this is done by finding a major exporting station (usually extraction/refinery economies) and sitting in the station, check the bulletin board, take all the good deals you can find, exit the game to menu and choose a different game mode (solo, private game, open). this can refresh the bulletin board, so you can keep picking up deliveries to your heart's content til your hold is full.
@PatrickRatman
@PatrickRatman 8 жыл бұрын
GiRayne eh, my commander succumbed to greed and bought an anaconda, fer de lance, vulture and a keelback with the money made smuggling islands of slaves in his asp (i'm elite trading rank because of it), cause he realized theres nothing the universe could throw at him to stop him. I kept trading in ships til i got in an ASP with the best FSD, then i started stockpiling once i made the money. its nice to keep different ships for different kinds of work in case i get bored of the mind numbing long range slave trading. i even took the anaconda out for a mining trip, its nice when you have 10 refinery slots and can have 6 active limpets at once, you can just sit back in the camera mode and watch the limpets deliver the fragments after strip mining asteroids.
