I vote for Clifton. I don't think he has a bad contract. The Bruins defense was tremendous when Clifton was there. He's got heart and plays big. Lindy's type of player. Jokiharju would be an outstanding 6th or 7th defenseman on a serious Stanley Cup Contender. For the Sabres? Nothing to write home about. It's fun to guess but Lindy will figure out what defensemen he needs to use in the regular season pretty quick. I like to think that the coach is excited about the horses he has on defense.

Sammy is one of my favorite Sabres, when he’s healthy and on his game. The best Defensive defenseman we have. I don’t want to give up on him.

We finally have a good problem on defense. Who makes the 3rd pairing. Prob a rotation type situation.

We finally have improved goalkeeping and a coach who knows how to use his defensemen. Thank God! That's been 70% of the problem over the last 10 yrs.

It took him about half the season to get to that point though. He looked really good in the back half of the season imo though.

Clifton missed on a lot of plays he could have made. He also took some dumb penalties. But, I like the hits

I'm also surprised that Marty Wilford was retained. He preaches a zone defense which is not conducive for players like Dahlin and Byrum. I'd rather a man-to-man defense.

Oh, our personnel should be man-to-man, no question. Playing zone completely screwed our players the past few years. We are fast. Playing zone is silly.

Put Peterka on the top line, and put Zucker with Cozens and Quinn. If you check out the goals Zucker scores, he's great on one-timers.

I think you definitely want to have Clifton start the season and see how he goes, I think he had trouble adapting to our teams defensive "structure" to start the season. He came from one of the most strictly structured organisations (Boston) and came to probably the most undisciplined rabble in the NHL last year. I haven't checked the analytics, but just from watching I felt like he got his game going after the new year.

Player to target on Philly is Tyson Foerster, you wont have to sell the farm and you would get a player who has huge upside next year.

Power is a big sized kid , if he would get meaner , he would be great . Clifton is grittier than most and he hits and plays a physical game.

I agree, personally I think his contract’s the worse on the team. Clifton’s isn’t great, but it’s not a huge cap hit compared to Samuelsson’s, and there’s only 2 years left on it, they could easily dump off Clifton’s contract if they wanted. I said it when they did it that Samuelsson’s contract came to early and was too much for a guy who hadn’t really proven much and is injured too much, and so far that has come true

I’m not sure I agree that Clifton is the worst contract on the roster. I’d say that should go to Jordon Greenway. Greenway is below the 50th percentile in every category. If I had to choose one of these two $3,000,000 contracts, I’m going with the player that HITS, and that’s not Greenway.

If the Sabres are interested in tanking, Bryson's your guy. The defence right now is Dahlin/Byram, Power/Samuelsson, Clifton/Jokiharju with Gilbert as No. 7. Good chance Joki gets traded and that would give Johnson a shot.

I hate to say this, but with his ties to Philly and his physical style of play, Samuelsson would be the best option to package with Kreb if we want Farabee (or Frost) in a trade. Possibly a prospect or draft pick coming back this way. I like Samuelsson a lot, but his contract and injuries make me nervous on a crowded blue line. That would make Clifton and Joki as 5-6 d-men, with Gilbert as the 7th. Till we trade Joki (if he doesn’t EARN a contract next season), the move Johnson up to a 5-6-7th spot.

@@danevertt3210 I agree. But 95% of the fans wouldn’t have trade Savoie either. Hopefully that one doesn’t come back to haunt us, but Sammy needs to stay healthy or not trading him may haunt us as well.

You can play Samuelsson’s style, if you’re a 3rd pair guy, getting penalty killing minutes. Put him with Clifton on the 3rd pair, and give them 17ish minutes a game. His body can’t handle the minutes. JMO.

According to my sewage pit make me laugh aka Toronto Maple leafs fan friends Owen Power will be traded for Mitch Marner. 😂😂 Sabres D on opening night...... Bryram. Dahlin Samuelsson. Power Gilbert Clifton Jokiharju- 7th D if hes not traded. Johnson and Bryson start the season in Rochester.Dont count out Sabres draft pick from Drummondville of the QMJHL V. Komorov who will push for a job but most likely needs a year of seasoning in Rochester.

Their 3rd pairings have been absolutely awful. Bryson turned it around last year. But they haven’t been able to find the right chemistry. Clifton started off terrible.

Word on the street is philly is interested in Samuelsson just because of his friendly Contract alone and they say that may be what is the hold up for a Farabee trade involving Krebs is wanting to trade Sammy just because he is an awesome Locker room guy. He can be Replaced by Ryan Johnson or Gilbert if need be. The money for those 2 for Farabee should even up

I’d want them to throw in one of their right handed D prospects. They have one, Hunter McDonald from the Buffalo area. Big guy big hitter, he was a late round pick but on many lists is a Flyers top 10 prospect still

This trade could very well be in the works - Sammy was on vacation with Dahlin and other Sabres, maybe when he gets back he gets a call from Adams telling him to ship out to Philly for Farabee. Makes sense, hard to afford him+byram+power+dahlin

Sammy before big contract and after are two different players. Pre contract he played hard and tough. After he signed I thought he let off the gas in a big way. Especially physically.

Dahlin is a step too slow to be called elite defenseman he may be in the top 10 one or two or three years, but he’ll never win the best defenseman sadly to say the least

@@charlieb308 elite talent yes in terms of shooting for Quinn and speed for JJ but are they elite players you can build a cup team around ??? No they are 2nd line top 6 players like tuch and cozens, Thompson is the only 1st line level talent we have and I even have questions about him, with no elite prospects in the pipeline and no elite players now this core is already fucked, that’s what you get drafting 8-12 every year a lot of unknowns and the good franchises know how to develop talent too to their full potential and find gems unlike Buffalo

This is what concerns me. Like last year we saw Cozens and Dahlen and so forth having all sorts of fun in the sun but I'd like to see some video on Sammy and others working out working hard dong something to bolster their on ice ability.
